Default So, I did send it to the shop (Update)

Okay, back to my great electrical saga.
Lets think back a few. 1969 Camaro, last time I posted I think that the tach was out, and the lights surrounding the gauges were out too.

Now here is what is out:
Tach
Gauge Lights
Parking Lamps
Tail Lights

But I have brake lights, and front and rear turn signals!

Another thing that might help the most, everytime I put in a new fuse for the tail lights, it blows as soon as I pull the light switch. So there is a problem some where else in the line. The ground wires are all clear and secure, the wire for the tach to the coil is in and fine, Ive tightened, loosened, moved, and prayed with it many times now.
All the bulbs are working, the gauges are brand new, The wiring harnesses are new, except for some portions of the wires to the back, but they are in good shape.

Any more ideas?? I will be grateful just to have tail lights for now so I can drive at night without concerns! But I tihnk that the problems might all be connected, if I solve one I might solve them all.

sounds like you have a short in you tailamp circuit. maybe a wrong bulb insalled or a pinched wire some where. Put a head lamp in pace of the fuse.w hen it lights up bright it tells you there is a short. slowly remove items fromt hte circuit. when the light goes dim your problem is in the circuit that you just removed the item from

Default wiring

spend the 80 bucks and get a new tailight harness, hich goes from dash to tail panel, as for dash lights they are probaly blown, is it a stock 69 dash, remove dash and check them

you can wire in a slef reseting breaker instead of the fuse, that way you have time to try to track the short without throwing away fuses.

Car went to the shop today for the electrical gremlins. End Result:

Lights back up and working
Engine clear of problems
***Brand New Tach Busted*** (And I have no reciept for its purchase...was bought through shop that built car)

All the problems were stuff I could not have managed on my own, but yet the 8 hours of labor and the new Tach just kinda ruin having the car in working order again. Grrr.

Well, back to work.

Default Electical Gremlins

Tim,

I feel your pain. I had an '83 Porsche 911 that had electrical problems that I chased for a year! It would eat spark boxes every 800-1000 miles and leave me stranded. I finally took it to an independent Porsche garage with the right diagnostic equipment and he chased the problem for 3-4 weeks. (each time he called to say he fixed it, I told him to drive it home, to the store, etc until it acted up again, it always did) long story short a $1500 tab and wishy-washy I think I kindamightafixedbutdon'tbringback answer. It ran like a scalded dog after that, but I sold it after I put about 600 miles on it. I just couldn't bare to go thru it again had it not been fixed. It pretty much ruined me for life as far as wanting to own one of those things again....I hope you have better luck than I did!
