Default Title trace

Hey guys, do any of you have an info on how to trace a title or it's history?

The car is a 66 mustang and there is a discrepancy between what the title shows for a VIN and what the VIN plate says.

I've contacted a local DMV inspector, but I am awaiting his return call.
The gentleman that ownes the car would like to get this sorted out before moving forward with his project.

sounds like the car has a shady past.. dont touch it with a 10 foot pole till its sorted out... could in theory be a stolen car

Nah, we aren't doing anything to it, till it's sorted out. I guess an inspector came out to his house to look the vehicle over and said it doesn't show up stolen, but he has 30 days to find out where the discrepency came in, or they will confiscate the car.

The last five digits on the VIN plate and the title are different.
