Front wheels on a 69 camaro

I'm finishing up an mini tub and Quadra link on my 69 camaro. I have 315/35x17x10 wheels on the rear. I was running 16 inch wheels all the way around 8 inch rear and 7 up front. Now the 16 inch wheels with 50 series tires up front look pretty bad. I'd like to put 17 wheels inch in front, maybe a 255/35 tire on an 8 inch wide wheel. I looked for 35 series tires to go on a 16 inch wheel. I didnt find anything. I have done up grades to the stock sub frame, guldstrand mod 13 inch Baer's and speed tech A arms and such. Whats going to fit in the front in the way of wheels and back spacing? I'm running american racing torque thrust II. Thanks alot guys.

17 x 8 w/ 5" bs and a 245/45/17 tire. They will be a nice match for your rears and have the same side wall height.

Good advice Rick. I was just looking at my available tire sizes. I put Dunlop on the rear. It looks like I cant have a 35 series. But I can have a 40 series.

Your front space is the important number. Deduct 3.25 from whatever size rim you choose. If it is a 8" rim, you need 4.75, 8.5 rim, 5.35, 7" rim, 3.75. This will keep you outer wheel profile where you want it.

As for tires, when choosing you need to look at overall height and section width. You need to be sure your front tire is the same height or shorter then the rear because the front tire has less lip on the wheel and is more narrow, it already will try to look taller then the rear even at the same height. If your front rim is 1" smaller then your rear rim (18" rear, 17" front), you need to be sure your front tire is at least 1" shorter then your rear tire.

Section width is another concern you want to be sure the over all section minus the width of the rim is less on the front tire then the rear. In other words, you do not want a front tire with a 10" section on a 8" rim (1" of tire bulge per side) on the front, and then have a 12" tire on a 11" rim on the rear (1/2" tire bulge per side). It tend to make the front tires look wider then the rear. More tire bulge on the rear looks OK though.

Nothing in paticular, it always cool to see how guys do on the install of that paticular rearend.
