Default Can this be done?? Tailhousing swap T56

I want to get my shifter more forward towards the front of my car. It looks like the viper tail has the shifter a few inches further forward than a LS1, am I right about this?

I have a LS1 T56 trans, Can I swap out the tailhousing for the viper tailhousing?

Thanks in advance!
