E36 BMW with 5.0 and T5

Is putting a mustang 5.0 and T5 into a 92 318IS BMW ,changing the suspension ,wheels and interior to make a street /track car considered a G-Machine????? will this build be welcome here?? let me know if so i will show the build progress...
Ok i started this thread to detail my 5.0 into an E36 conversion....i was going to do this swap into an E30 but the car was way to nice an example..I picked up a E36 with a 4 cylinder and manual tranny not runninig for $300..This is a great starting point. I will also list all costs incured as i go along...The plan is to have a beast of a road course track car yet be able to drive it on the street.....my goal target is $5000.00 for the project

E36 .........$300

5.0 (86 model eng,no efi this was setup for a carb) and blown T5(needs 3rd gear)...Free.(Not any more)

6/28/09..sold notchback minus engine and tranny...

As of today the project investment is

E36 $300

Motor and tranny ,ECU exhaust ,drive shaft and gauges....$1200.00

total so far invested is $1500.00..

Update 7/7/09

Purchased the V8 installation kit from E36V8.com (http://e36v8.com/index.html) for $312.00 delivered

I upgraded to aluminium motor mounts to save weight ( ill be the first using these)

Total to date...............$1812.00
Sold old motor and tranny for $50.00
Total to date 7/14 ......$1762.00

Hah, that sounds pretty interesting. There's also an LS1 powered 3 series that was posted on corner carvers a little while ago.

God Barry what you doin now lol. Sound's like a fun project! I know a local guy here in Sebring that him and his son built one like that except with an LS1and 6speed. They race it once in awhile out @ the track here in Sebring and from what he tell's me it's wicked fast.

I wish you could have gotten to finish the Maverick...

Me too that mav would have been a fun little ride ..anyway here is an update on the BMW i removed the mustang engine ,tranny and ECU along with the wiring harness( what a pain that was)..I also removed the motor and tranny from the E36 That i took to a salvage yard and got 50 buck for so my E36 only cost me $250 total ..I removed the front sheet metal to aid in motor installation..

Be sure to reinforce the rear strut mounts and use solid upper mounts if you use the BMW IRS. Find a wrecked M, and I think some Z's had a stronger rear-end. The 3 series are notorious for tearing out the rear strut towers under hard use. I've ripped through 3 sets of mounts in past cars. I finally went to solid mounts on my M3, but didn't keep it long enough to see how well they lasted. I'd weld in a good cage, that body won't last long with any real power. At a minimum get the 'X' brace used in 'verts bolted in.
