Default Those of you with 12:1 Quick Ratio Steering...

I am installing a Lee Manufacturing quick ratio box and was wondering if you guys were happy with the 12:1 box. If you had to do it again would you go 10:1?

Tom Lee is recommending the 10:1 ratio due to the amount of time I spend on the race track but I am concerned it may be too quick....

Haven't heard of a 10 to 1 box, but the 12.7 to 1 is plenty fast if you have the long pitman arm and short outer steering arms. Your lock to lock turns will be about 2 turns. I know if steering boost fails with a 12.7 box it will be very hard to steer the car. Next to impossible if it's sitting still with engine off. If you have a hydroboost system, get the better pump shaft he sells. Shaft breakage with hydroboost will fail the brakes and steering at the same time! It's happened.

Thanks for the info and heads up David. I'll give him a holler and mention the better pump. I did tell him I plan to eventually go hydroboost so...

Look forward to meeting you and Mary one of these days out at the track

I have his 12.7:1 box and I'd say that it is plenty quick. I was shocked when I went from my manual steering to the short ratio power steering, definitely have to retrain your brain for how quickly it turns. I think it would be plenty quick for track use, but I have yet to try that myself. Oh, and I have the long steering arms so it's actually not as quick as it could be.

i would think since you do drive it on the streets and the freeway 10:1 is gonna be way to quick... hell if you sneeze while going 70+ you'll fly across 3-4 lanes LOL

10:1 will be like a porsche carerra RSR.. and people would routinely put them in the ditch or spin them on the highway if they got flustered avoiding slower cars... but if you have plenty of track experience it shouldnt be a roblem.. i have a 12:1 on my malibu and often wish for a faster ratio box... just be sure your pump is up for the task... you will be moving large quantities of oil at high pressure... so you will need a race spec pump as well.... or at the very least a matched flow controll valve..
