Question The things you do for family

Sooo... My brother-in -law has a 70 Chevelle in the body shop. It is actually in the paint booth so we are expecting it in about a month( the body shop said a week so we did the math lol). He wants to run Foose Nitrous 5 in an 18/20 combo. The suspension is getting a bone stock rebuild...until the wallet recovers. When the funds allow, we will be going full air-ride with the spindles and control arms to be determined at a later date. I guess what I am getting at is, we want to run the car for the next few months before winter sets in. What is the biggest rim/ tire we can stuff under it that should work at stock height and also when we do the air-ride set up. I know there are alot of variables involved, so I am looking to eer on the safe side so we don't have to spend money twice. He is definatley more of a show-then go guy so the bigger and deeper the better lol. Again...not my car, but I better keep him happy so his sister dosen't give me a hard time lol. I know this is kinda the unanswerable without alot more info, but this is what I have to go on right now. Feel free to throw out any ideas

Thanks guys
JIm

Jim,
A very safe setup on a '70 Chevelle would be a 18x8 & 20x8 with 275/35 & 285/35 rubber.I had those on in this picture w/o issues and my car is lowered a little.

No,the wheels in that picture were 20x8's and yeah...I thought they were too skinny and sold them.

He was asking for 'safe' recommendations, that's why I mentioned that combo.
Besides,I don't even know if Foose offers the Nitrous in a 10" width.

A '70 Chevelle wheelwell will usually swallow up a 9",9.5" or 10" wheel easy, whether that will be considered safe when further suspension modifications are made would need to be determined by the OP.

On a stock suspension chevelle that has been lowered a little, you can run an 8.5" up front and a 10" in the rear. Should not be a problem at all.

You listed a 275 and 285mm. No way either belongs on a 8 inch rim especially in a 20.

Agreed. 9 or 9.5 wide is ideal for 275/285 tire.

Thanks guys. It looks like we will be going with a 10 in the rear and 8.5 in the front. Just need to figure out the backspacing we need. Yes, I would do the suspension first, but like I said, it's not my car or my money..for a change lol.
