Default 6.2 liter LS valve problems??

My sister has a 2007 Escalade Ext with the 400hp 6.2 LS motor. Last Friday the truck did a heavy shimmy shake and stopped dead on the hwy. Long story short, the dealer pulled the valve cover and discovered the engine had swallowed a valve into the motor. Dealer said this is a common problem with the 6.2 and that they will do a full longblock crate motor exchange. Apparently these motors have a "hardened" valve that has been breaking from being too hard to the point of being brittle. Truck has 53000 miles. Has anyone seen or heard of this problem? Dealer said it is a common and they don't even bother to repair the motors anymore, they just change them out.

Is this the factory stock L92 heads that are failing?

please ship old motor to...... Tacoma Washington - I'll fix it!

seriously- thats how we roll in at the used car market too. quicker and cheaper to replace complete engines than mess around with gaskets and machine labor

Is this the L92 engines that are having the problems? Is it specific to any year or model it was installed in?

So far as I've heard, it's an L92 issue, not an LS3 issue. Here's the only thing I could find on a quick Google search: http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?p=177239

Note that Denali's came with L92 engines, not LS3s.

Thanks Mike. That will give me some information to go with, and search for more. I am going to use L92 heads and want to be sure I don't miss something important like valves breaking off.
