409 build and dyno with new Edelbrock heads

I hope this may interest some of you classic horsepower fans. I've just finished building a classic Chevy 409 with a few modern touches and covered everything on video. Since original 409 heads are getting really tough to find--and are priced to match--we used Edelbrock's new 409 aluminum heads and painted them for a more stealth look. We also stroked it with a big block 396 crank to get 440 cubic inches. The final dyno numbers were 505 horsepower and 507 ft/lbs of torque without doing anything too radical.

Very cool. I have an original 409 so I have a love for these. I like how you did the street racer paint the heads trick.

This is my 409.



Next project looks to be an all aluminum 409 (World aluminum block w/ Edlebrock heads) possibly twin turbo in a 61 bubble top all pro-toured!

I think what makes the 409 so cool is lost on people now-a-days because it was so different and rare now. I'd wager most people just thing oh it has different looking heads and plug location having no clue what made it different. Personally, I love seeing 409s. Glad to see some people are still building them. Your numbers look great especially through those cast iron manifolds. Congrats.

I have a super rare Paxton GM supposed prototype 409 set up. It uses the T-Brird style VR or VS style supercharger, whichever is the cool one with the fins. It has been sitting on my shelf for about 20 years. GM part numbers on the pulleys. The air cleaner enclosure looks like a huge pot Someday?
