Holley 1050 issues

I have an old and recently rebuilt holley. When I turn the electric fuel pump on, fuel pours out of the valves next to the main fuel bleeds through that vertical tube. The car also runs very rich, I cut back the pressure to 5psi for now. It died at idle a few times today and very difficult to get started. I never had this problem before, but was in much cooler location. Used to run great. Now runs rough at low RPM and is awesome when wide open.

Is the fuel spitting out normal with electric fuel pump?

How do I lean this thing out? Is it only the idle mixture adjustments?

if you have fuel flowing out the boosters or the vent tube at idle or with just the fuel pump on you either have too much fuel pressure, dirt/debis in the needle and seat so it can't close, float level too high, or a sunk float (which would hold the needle and seat open).

Don't drive the car this way, you're asking for a fire. First thing I would do is pull the needle and seat out and verify it's clean. Then I'd lower the float level down and slowly bring it up to the proper level. Sounds like your pressure is okay, and a sunk float can happen, but not likely.

Thanks Jody....after further investigating......I found the rear to venturis are missing the idle adjustment screw. Could this lead to the problem as well or is this in addition. I got it running enough to get the car in the garage (slight hill where I live) and I smell of gasoline big time. I am not doing anything until I can get my hands on these screws. I think I may have 2 issues.

can you post a pic of what you're referring to? I'm confused...........

There are the 2 sides of the carb. You can see that the rear of the carb on both sides is missing the idle adjustment screw. At least that is what I think it is. Thanks for the input!!

there are a lot of four barrel Holleys that do not have secondary idle mixture adjustments. Those look like blank holes to me, like a screw could not even be installed. Take a close look and let us know.

I'm still recommending taking a look at the needle and seats for debris, as well as making sure the float levels are not too high.
