Is this a real Z/28 and what is it worth?

My neighbor across the street has had this Camaro since he was in High School in the early '70s. He is the second owner of the Camaro. He is now retired and traveling the country by RV and leased his house to another family. When the owner of the Camaro moved in several years ago, he said it was a real Z/28, and that he will restore it someday. Since the owner is traveling around, I am going to try to buy this from him just so it will stop rotting in his yard. I already have three projects I am working on now, I really don't have the space or resources to start another project...... First, is this a real Z/28? It has everything a Z has except a cowl hood and rear spoiler. It has a small block (owner claims it is the original 302) with headers and holley carb with mechanical secondaries.

Second, what is it worth in this condition? I has a lot of rust and needs both rear quarter panels, trunk lid and trunk floor pan. That is just what I found in the few minutes I had to look at it up close.

Most cars were a flat hood and many early cars had no rear spoiler. I like the patina to verify it's originality. I like the endura front bumper and the deluxe interior! I do question how bad the car is. The cowl could very well be rotted out given the way everything else looks.

$5000? If it's the original drivetrain. Just my opinion though.

Friend at work was going to sell me his 69 for $1500, it was a real Z missing the motor, some on painted it a ugly yellow and debaged it!! his wife was mad at hime for having 3 airplanes in pieces in there backyard, so she called her friend and he came down and got it,!!!! I'm still mad about that one!

Have you seen the cowl tag? Does it have 4 leafs on the springs?

Check the rear end, I'm pretty sure that all Z28's had a 12 bolt. And I've seen a tag on the rear end before that gave a date code on some 1969's.

I thought the blocks had DZ codes and the last four digits on the motor matched the VIN........

Love the enduro bumper, never seen an original with one on it. Love the snake skin too, not sure that was original though, lol.

If that thing is a true matching numbers Z28 value would be in the eye of the beholder. If you pick that up for $5000 and it was real, I would say good deal as long as the matching numbers motor was in it.

I know my car had its build sheet in a sealed clear plastic envelope taped to the top of the fuel tank. I think the other areas for build sheets were in the headliner above the passenger seat or in the visor.

Man what a shame! I hope you are able to get it and do something with it. If it is a X code car it will be X-33 or X-77. Pre-X code cars are harder to tell. Watch out for snakes and other creatures.

They do have DZ on the engine and all 12 bolt rears.

I looked at the pad where the codes are stamped, but there was nothing there. It was blank. Maybe the block had been machined.

I am trying to get in contact with the owner but so far no luck. Hopefully he will cut me a deal on this.

If it is a Z/28 and you can verify from the plate that rear axle, tranny, and engine are matching, get it! Make an offer
