Default Procharged LS9 Cammed LY6 '69 442 - Red Rocket Olds

Hey Guys,

I have had a build thread for a while in the projects section but I am getting to the point where I have changed plans more times than a woman, so I am starting up a new, clean build thread following my progress from this point forward.

My current build is a '08 LY6 converted to non-VVT with a single S475 BW hanging from one truck manifold and one F-body manifold. All this is packed into a '69 442! Recently, however, I stumbled across a ProCharger set-up in this very same forum and couldn't pass the deal up. Most of my turbo stuff is already sold and the Procharger stuff should be here tomorrow!!!:chug::nod:

I am pretty far along in the build...getting ready to mock up the Procharger and swap out the current cam for the LS9 I originally had in there.

Running a GMPP Single Plane and replacing the elbow in the pics with a high flow Edelbrock elbow or possibly and intakeelbows.com elbow, they look pretty sweet. I am just not sure whether I will have distribution issues with the low profile elbow. Anyone can chime in with their experiences/thoughts.

And you will see a Lingenfelter MAF in the pics...they have proven it to 750hp and that is north of my goals so that is good enough for me. I am planning for a 10sec slip the first time out and have a wager with a turbo friend of mine for $100. Here's to hopin'!!!! :chug:

Here's some pics!

All my suspension goodies!

JZ Motorworks pan (now Holley's pan)

Shortblock before FI intake

Front Suspension

ASS

Lingenfelter MAF

What the Procharger will look like..

So this is where I am currently at...Since I already have the Vette Accessory drive on the car currently, I am going to use the accessories and may sell the rest for someone who needs it.

I am relying on Bob at Brutespeed for the rest of the needed brackets, BOV, and ATI Balancer as soon as I get paid for the Turbo that is selling on the 'Bay tonight.

I am sending out all the piping to be coated and I am UBER excited about this as I originally wanted a procharger but couldn't afford it before.

I have a few questions about my set-up vs. pulley sizes if anyone wants to chime in...

What is the standard pulley on a D1SC 8 rib and how much can we push a LS9 cammed 9.6:1 LY6? It has L92 heads, ARPs everywhere, but otherwise stock rotating assembly.

I want my 10-sec slip!!!!

Thanks guys!
Dave

Hey Steve,

Yea man...I saw that and almost pooped my pants!

I started talking with him back and forth and seemed to be the only serious guy...couldn't believe it. He emailed me back saying he was ready to deal and $2200 later it was in my lap...shipped....brand new. He was a real good guy to work with too. Did I mention he threw in a crank pinning kit and a Procharger intercooler!

I am thinking since I pretty much have the wiring buttoned up...I would like to see if I can have her running within the next month. I have made it a point to completely stop using the credit cards to build this car because while I have no real issue paying it back, I refuse to pay interest. That payments I choose to make now are just ridiculous and it is my fault. Sooo....I'll slow down the build a little and learn some patience.

I'll keep this updated as I just took a break for a few....going back out there now.

Thanks

ah I see you're using Jason's car as inspiration. I used the same car to help me with putting the Procharger in my car. Good luck with the build! Seems like a sweet project

Alright! LS9 cam is in! Swapped out the Lunati for the LS9 this afternoon and I am happy to announce the lifter retainers actually retained the lifters and none fell into the pan.

Anyhow, here is a close up shot of the elbow in question. It will give me aplenty of hood clearance but I am concerned that its low profile may lead to uneven distribution to several cylinders...any thoughts?

All the accessories off the front of her:

Yanking off the rockers and timing cover...

CAM IS IN!!!

Rockers and pushrods going back in...

Valve covers back on...

Timing cover too!

She waits for tomorrow when the procharger arrives!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOO!!!!

More to come tomorrow!
Dave

Welp, when I got home from work today this was waiting for me!!!

After dinner I lugged it out to the garage and tore into it...

Probably won't be able to use the intercooler but it was cool the previous owner gave it to me.

Here the main bracket is installed:

Followed by the D1SC:

Met my first snaffu of the install...Since this is an LY6 and not an aluminum LS1/2/3 etc...I am missing a boss and some tapped holes on the block to install the power steering pump.

This:

Should look like this:

Unfortunately I am just out of luck with one of the holes as there is just no boss at all, but can still drill and tap the available boss toward the edge of the block. I plan to fab my own combo bracket if necessary to get this thing in the right position.

More to come tomorrow...I'm beat...
