sound control products

Does anyone here know of generic alternatives for the sound control products on the market? I'm referring to mass loaded vinyl and closed cell foam in particular. I realize I'm more than likely going to be substituting lower quality for cheaper price but considering I'm not made of money and the vehicle in question will be a crew cab chevy, I'm ok with not going broke to quiet the truck down. I'm good when it comes to the dampening products just not so good with the foam and vinyl stuff.

So far I have searched McMaster Carr and have found many selections of closed cell foam. I've found a rather heavy neoprene foam that I think will work well but honestly, I don't know and I'd be taking a gamble. That's why I am hoping someone else has done this and can guide me and others looking to save money. The biggest issue with the mass loaded vinyl is the cost of shipping. At 1lb/ft^2, enough MLV to do the truck will cost a fortune to ship. So anyone know what type of store might carry something like that in case I can pick it up locally?

I have used the RAAMmat BXT...It lays down and feels similar to Dynamat Extreme.

I used this from McMaster Carr.

5692T61 Acoustical Polyurethane Foam Absorber, Adhesive Back, Skinned, 1/2" Thick, 54"w

Compare this stuff @ approx. $9 foot with other specialty suppliers.

Have installed on the firewall so far and will cover the the entire floor and behind back seat. Adheasive backing stuck good and is easy to work with.

Put the Acoustical Foam over Be-Quiet Ultimate sound deadener.

After putting the foam over the Be-Quiet, that area of the firewall went "dead quiet" The rest of the floor is not finished yet so don't have enough info on completed results.

My son is an electrical engineer with some specialty in sound engineering. He helped pick the products for the install!

yeah I was gonna link that site also.

i doubt youll find any "store front" type place locally, youll have to find a company that specializes in building acoustics in your area and go from there.
because like you said that stuff is HEAVY

I plan on using it on my 70 camaro project. After talking with them at Columbus I was very impressed. We figured that if i went all out it might cost me about 250 to 300.
