The early ssr came with a 5.3. Later they came a 6.0 I believe.

2005 Model year had the 5.3 "Vortec 5300 engine".

The 2006 model year had the LS2 6.0 in them. The LS2 is a great engine, it has the LS6 heads with a smaller cam and soduim filled valves. Also the LS2 doesnt blow up like the LS3 does on a track. With a cam, truck intake, and tune you can build a TON of power on these.

On a side note, these still are the best vehicles that GM ever built as far as fit and finish goes.

i may be wrong but it think the 04 SSR had the 5.3 and the 05-06 had the LS2. U could also get a 6 spd on the 05/06 while the 04 all had autos. I shopped these a few years back, but its been a while.

That is correct.

Side note. I really liked the SSr. Yeah, it was a toy but it was cool. I put a Magnacharger on a 5.3 04. It was quick after that but still couldn't spin those huge and heavy 21" rear wheels. I think if GM had spent a little more time cutting weight and making the truck more of an SS, they would have had better sales results.

You have to have the traction capability to do it, but ~ 1.2 G's sustained in a left hand sweeper does it every time.

Seems like a lot of horror stories with LS-anything motors blowing up in that thread -- with and without oiling mods -- IF you are running it REALLY hard and often.

But also plenty of mixed results in that thread. Nonetheless, good thread and thanks for posting. I know it makes me feel less jealous about an LS motor the way I am using my car lately.
