Default T-56/BBC clutch options

So I'm getting ready to pick up my clutch kit this week. For info the setup is...

DAILY DRIVEN
Mark IV 454 (hoping for around 525-575 Tq @ rear wheels)
McLeod modular bellhousing
LS1 type T-56
Mcleod Billet flywheel

I'm looking into clutch options. The three I found are Spec, McLeod, and Centerforce. I don't have any experience with the 2nd and 3rd option, but I've had a spec stage 3 in my LS1 GTO (H/C/I + 250 shot).

Spec - Wasn't happy with clutch feel, and have heard bad reviews on some. Mine was ok, but it didn't get driven much.

McLeod - I'd like to do this setup to keep everything from one company but there super street is only rated to 500hp or less ($550), and the RST Twin disc is $900. I really can't do that right now, still over budget.

Centerforce - There Dual friction setup is around $358 for 11" kit and $415 for 12" kit. I read that the DF holds up to 700ftlbs. The prices of these are really hard to pass up.

Right now I'm leaning towards one of the Centerforce clutches, specifically the 11" Dual friction, it will handle everything I need it to it's rated @ 600ftlbs. I'd like to the 12" version (rated @ 700ftlbs) for extra security but I'm nervous about it not fitting in the McLeod bellhousing. I wanna stay away from the DFX b/c the wife will be driving the truck occasionally and she will complain about ANY chatter or tough clutch pedal. Sooo does anyone know if the 12" setup will fit in my b/h? If not I'm just gonna get the 11".

If anybody has any experience with any of these or advice on install or choosing a clutch please post up.

I had a Centerfoce DF with my last engine with 500 RWHP/TQ and it held fine. I hadn't really got into my prime in racing at that time but you plan to street drive it. Ratings seem to be all over the place but I thought it was only 550hp. I always thought the pedal effort was fine and never had any chatter or noise that I can remember.

I now have the McLeod RXT. It takes a little more leg and it's agressive. Pretty much an on off switch. It's been really good to me though and has never slipped an inch. It's rated at 1000hp but I'd choose the RST if you go McCleod. It's organic vs. ceramic. I think it would treat you better on the street. When I told them at McLeod about my power level and racing, they recommended the RXT.

I think the Centerforce DF will treat you fine for your application.

I think that's what i"m gonna do, the 11" seems like it will work fine. That's funny to hear about the twin disc being hard on the leg, and still chattering. I thought that was supposed to be it's big advantage of a single disc puck style clutch, not having any of that I mean. But if it works, I wouldn't knock it. I looked into but just can't justify the cost. I can buy the centerforce kit and go through 2 extra clutch disc before I can reach the same price as the RST. Not worth at my power levels I think.

I had a mcleod, bought the mcleod bell street twin etc. Had nothing but issues with it. Did your bellhousing come with a spacer? Quick time and Mcleods have different installed depths. Luckily quicktime list there spec on the website.

Ask me how I know! I took a 1300 dollar loss because after repeated calls and emails to mcleod couldnt get the issue fixed. I finally sold it, talked to ram and without even seeing the pics they knew what was wrong in one email. Ram's supposedly the biggest twin if thats what you want.

If you are going with a push style clutch you might try the GM Van /Chevelle clutch. Its eleven inches and is supposed to be good to 600 ft/lbs. I have 406 to the wheels in a 4,300 lbs B-body and it has held up fine for five years. About
$ 150 for the set from O'Reilys. Pm me if you are interested and I will find the box and get you the part number.
