Default 68 Camaro OEM center console

I have a factory console with gauges in my 68 Camaro and was wondering if anyone has ever covered one with leather and installed pw swiitches in the console. Pictures if you have them.

If the 68 is like the 69 it needs to be separated in order to remove it from the tunnel. If you cover it are you going to create issues?
