Default T56 weirdness - 6th gear 1:1?

Yesterday I looked at an LS1 T56 I was considering for an LS3/T56 swap into my 69 Camaro. When I was confirming the gear ratios by turning the output shaft and counting the turns of the input shaft everything checked out until I got to 6th gear. Instead of .5 turns of the input shaft for one turn of the output, 6th gear gave a full turn of the input for a full turn of the output (I.e. 1:1). Any ideas on why this would be the case? The trans had apparently been used in a drag car and had been built by 6-Speed Inc. (now out of business).

Could you possibly have selected 4th gear instead of 6th? Sounds stupid but when its out of the car you dont have the leverage you'd normally have or the same feel slecting gears. Just a guess, as that wouldnt make sense especially if 5th checked out ok.

Possible that 5th and 6th were removed? sounds like some shops remove the 5th and 6th gears, then weld the 5th and 6th shift gates in place.

Thanks for the replies guys. When I found out the trans came out of a drag car I wondered whether the gearing could have been changed to different ratios, or whether 6th had been removed, but 1st through 5th were the correct factory ratios (as listed in the link SuperB70 provided as well as this writeup: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98387 ). As far as going back into 4th instead of 6th, the seller and I tried the 5-6 shift three or four times to confirm we were getting into the proper gear, so I'm pretty sure we were in what was supposed to be 6th. I agree though, we wouldn't have had the leverage we would have been used to if the trans was in the car, so I guess 5th->4th may have been a possiblity despite our efforts. I wasn't comfortable opening the case to look at the configuration.
