Default New Chassisworks Transmission Install Accessories for 67-73 Camaro and 68-74 Nova

Hey Everybody!
The guys in the shop have been working hard on a bunch of new little pieces lately. I’m happy to present to you a few that will make properly installing a T-56 and 4L80E series transmissions a much simpler proposition. Click the part numbers to see each piece on our site

First up is a piece for the ’67-69 Camaro. One of the big issues with sticking a T-56 in an early Camaro is that it just does not properly fit without modifying the trans tunnel. To get it under the stock tunnel the back of the trans ends up pointing down so far that the headers drag on the ground and your u-joint angle is totally screwed. If you cut the whole thing out and put a drag race style tunnel in the car, all of a sudden there’s no room for your feet!

Our new 5922-F10 Tunnel Cap is a solution to this issue! It replaces the top of the transmission tunnel from the firewall to the seat crossmember to provide additional clearance. It is laser cut from 18 gauge steel and has an increasing radius edge. The bottom lip is stepped so that it can slide inside the stock tunnel and give you a good surface that is easy to weld. Cost is only $98. Or, get it through one of our vendors here on the forum.

Next up, we have four new trans crossmembers. Each is designed to work with the Chassisworks front clip, but can be fit in a stock front frame using the appropriate adapter. Each will work with BBC, SBC, and LS series engines. They are made from 1-1/4" x.120 wall tubing and are capable of handling over 1000 hp.

The 5916-F10-05 Tremec T-56 Crossmember for ’67-’69 Camaro/Firebird and '68-'74 Nova. Because a T-56 will not fit in the stock tunnel, as mentioned above, this crossmember repositions the back of the transmission 1” lower than stock for those who don’t want to modify the tunnel. For those who are to modify the tunnel top, there is an included spacer that goes between the T-56 and the rubber trans mount to raise it back up. Cost is $249. Use with adapter 5916-F10-11 for BBC/SBC cars with OEM clips. Use with 5916-F10-12 for LS cars with OEM clips.

Also available for the ’67-’69 Camaro and '68-'74 Nova is the 5916-F10-06 4L80/4L85E Crossmember. This crossmember will position the transmission in the tunnel with a little massaging and trimming. An easy at home job. Cost is $269. Use with adapter 5916-F10-11 for BBC/SBC cars with OEM clips. Use with 5916-F10-12 for LS cars with OEM clips.

Second gen F-Bodies also get some love today!
For '70-'73 you have the option of 5916-F20-05 for the T-56 ($249) and 5916-F20-06 for the 4L80/85 ($249) will both fit in the stock tunnel with a bit of ‘massaging’ and will keep the engine at the correct angle. For fitment in an OEM frame, you will need adapter kit 5916-F20-13 which works with BBC/SBC and LS engines.

And just for fun, here’s a pic of the prototypes laying on the ground during test fitment!

Excellent. 4L80E/85E crossmembers with good exhaust clearance have been overlooked for a long time. I'll be sure to recommend these to to our customers.

Yep, and Chassisworks always has very high quality parts. I've used their universal crossmembers in several of my past projects.

Just thought I'd mention that we have more of these tunnel caps back on the shelf. We sold through the first run pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure most of them sold to guys on this forum and PT.com.

Very cool stuff coming from Chassisworks lately! We have using quite a bit of some of the new projects on builds at the shop. Great people to deal with too!
