That's the perfect gear tranny combo unless you're running some goofy tire size....

Yup. With a 25.5" to 26" tire and a 700R4 (or 4L60E, 4L80E) 3.73 is perfect. It keeps the engine in the powerband at cruise speeds. Some folks out-trick themselves by choosing too high a gear (too low numerical) only to find that drivability and throttle response both suffer. Go with a 3.73 gear.

EDIT: And get the converter right, also. Call us for help.

Default Gear of Confusion

Would 3.50 be considered to high of a gear?

I am looking at the rpm calculator and leaning toward the 3.5x than the 3.7x

The car is LS equipped with a 4l70e and the rear tire is 295/35/18.

Suggestions?

A 4L70E offers more flexibility as it's possible to use software to raise 3-4 shift points and lock up speeds. While I still favor 3.73's, for the 4L70E, a 3.50 works well as long as the cam is not too crazy.

It's all about keeping the engine in its power band when in overdrive.
