Default The lower case X pipe

So a new project came into the shop for a medium punch list....we put it up to drain the fluids and Rod noticed this. I like to call it the lower case "x" pipe. Im just glad the guy wasn't handed an "H" pipe.

We got a good laugh and thought i'd share since I usually don't.

Is this a new way to do it?

Probably had a little extra tube left. And hated to waste it. I know I hate to throw away good material's.

I think an all out dyno comparo is in order....

Back in the days of my drag racing (a '55 handyman wagon - D gasser)... I was taught to spray paint the exhaust beginning just aft of the collector... while it was still "wet" - we'd fire it off and where the paint started to bubble was where we'd place the crossover (before X pipes my friends - long before!).

We didn't have exhaust on the drag cars - back then we just ran open headers - just saying that when I was learning lots of stuff about cars in general was back when I was drag racing and hanging out with people that did stuff like this.

Never a dull moment in this biz. Heres a custom exhaust " hanger" we came accross on a chevelle that just came in for a complete build. (i should say rebuild! since someone "completed" it 1000 miles ago!)

Default The Lower case x pipe

Never seen one like that before.. maybe
they are trying something new

Speaking of how things were done back in the day.
My buddy has a Vintage Lola Can Am car.... Lozano Bros out
of Texas freshened his motor up for big bucks.. when
they did the first Dyno run they called and told him
they need to cut the stacks on the injection to get
more power.. He told them it was Vintage Can Am and
many had unequal length stacks to make more power

Their comment was they did not know Jack.. he told them they
could cut 3/4" and they called back with 6 more hp and
wanted to cut more.. he said no.. it is good enough

His injection system is over $25k if you can find one
685 hp in a 1200 lb car can burn rubber all the way down
pit lane as I saw him do it a few years back after stopping
with an issue
