First Gen And Sway Bars Choices....
Hey guy's,
I'm finally starting to move on this gem of a 69 i picked up this summer....
Its an all orig car down to the bolts. 42k miles and sooo clean you can eat off of it!! I have not grown enough balls to decide on the mini tubs yet but i have put a 600 box in it at end of summer and MAN!!! What a difference!!!
Car is gold and black vinyl top, black int and i removed the original pinstripes and replaced them w/ a black hockey stripe and some SS396 15 inch wheels to give it a little more look than the usual rallyes. Its got a little look but now with the steering box feeling, its gotten me to wonder what bars would do!!!???
Like i said before, im not yet at the point of doing some surgical cuts in it as its too clean, but you never know.... As large as possible tires has always been my first thing to do in every car i ever had. But ive grown tired of rubbing and i like it so far....as its not rubbing anywhere!!
I was looking at anti sway bars and was wondering if it would be a good next move? I have done a lot of cars over the years but always went and jumped in and changed everything before even trying what was there first lol!!!
Now, older, also wiser id say, and with more responsabilities, i bought a super nice car to start with instead of having to spend 4 yrs putting it together and not enjoying it right off the bat. So i drive it and want to modd it as i keep it on the road at least the most possible so stages it is if you want to call it that, but i realize i really like this way of building it!!
What would be good sizes to start with? Car is a SB now, i have a BB built for boost and a YSI next to it that i was going to put in but the more i think of it the more i want to try PT with this one. i love the Fast street car/drag car set ups but i enjoy driving it on long distances so im more and more looking to swap and LS and sell the BB. for the bars, i like the billet mounts rather then the cheap thin sheet metal style mounts, i know some companies offer some nice ones so keep that in mind. Splined ones look killer and id be in for that if its a possibility.
I would drop it too...im thinking some 2 inch drop spindles? I remember reading about a clearancing prob with these so would just some 2 inch drop springs say like Hotchkis be a better idea? The rear i have a Calvert set up (split leafs and bars) thats new and i plan to try b4 anything else as i have it. Ill adjust it with blocks but i had them made very low in my other car in wich they only made driveway passes lol! So they should be good.
Id would be listening suggestions on if id be better to get some shocks right away or if my gas charged bilstein regular replacement sport are going to be ok or if it would again, be a MAJOR Change and that i should absolutely change them right off....?
To give you a line of tought on how to help if you want to, is that the situation is like this; what i i have is a 100 % stock car and id like to do some stuff to enjoy it some more, and as of now want to keep its value and be able to return it to stock if needed thats why im just not sure up to where i want to go and so, i have a stock 327 2bl with manifolds and a stock dual exhaust, a stock SSMOOTH, shifting 350 turbo etc....to work with so far.
So i feel i need/ want... (Easy to do and cheap) At least a 4 bbl intake, a carb, some headers (therer again, i have never used shorties and am looking at some for this set up, i tend to have a wanting to try lots of stuff i never done as i keep it on budget and simple too and not down for too long) then, a shift kit maybe to firm things up a bit? While its opened maybe a cam swap? Then when ill have the headers picked up...a complete exhaust...a shifter, etc etc. just so you understand where im going and why i want to get some stuff done in a step by step but i dont want to do things twice so i want to over think it before i move.(like i wont change the exh manifolds to headers fo 15 horses if im sure i will go to LS power later in the summer or next, but it wont keep me from putting the exhaust on...but i wont put a 2.5 in exhaust if im deciding to put the BB and YSI, get it?)
So much to do!!!!!!! Ahhh, this is fun. I had forgotten how fun it is to do it that way!!! I did my first car like that (out of necessity lol!!!) and then it was pissing me off... Now i like it!!
So, is bars a good next step? Coils or spindles? Brands? Models? Solid vs hollow?
Lets start with these parts.
Thanks guy's....
Lead.
