Markus Niemelä's axle breaks going into turn one at Perris Auto Speedway. We decided to post this after talking with Markus.
As you will see in the video, the roll cage collapses and Markus is trapped in the car. Miraculously he escaped with only a concussion. Markus said if he hadn't been prepared with the proper safety equipment in case of a crash of this magnitude, he might not be here today. He credits the decision to purchase his custom fitted ButlerBuilt seat with saving him from serious injury.
The Perris Auto Speedway safety team, one of the best in the world, took all the necessary precautions to ensure that Markus was extricated safely. This crash is a testament to taking safety seriously, and we're hoping our sharing of this footage will help educate. We're glad Markus is okay

Accelerating is optional...........stopping is mandatory. Your car WILL stop one way or another.
its all there for a reason whether you use it or not.
glad he is ok. that was a nasty tumble.
If you think about it, cages are designed to take a hit and protect during a roll, not for a roll, another roll then yet another roll then 2 impacts. How much is enough and what exactly do you build for? That's the torment for a builder.
