Tips/tricks to driving on wet pavement?

Hey guys,

George (pro71bird) and I are competing in Truckin' Magazine's Throwdown event on Friday in Fontana and the weather looks like it will be less than favorable. Apparently in California there is occasionally this weather condition called "rain" which is where the temperatures usually drop a bit and water falls from the sky. I've never seen it personally, but my grandma told me about it earlier today and it sounds like it'd be fun to see.

But while I'm looking forward to seeing rain for the first time, I'm told that it makes living my life 1/4mi at a time a little more tricky, so I've put in some phone calls to my friends who race on a regular basis to get their input and thought I'd ask you guys if you have any advice for me as far as how I should adjust my chassis setup and driving style.

We'll be competing in 1/4mi, Speed stop, slalom and AutoX and I'll try and get pictures of the rain so you guys can see what it's like.

It's exactly the same, only different! Rain just makes the surface a lil more glossy and it tricks the rig into thinking the rear steers instead of the front. You'll be fine. I'd be careful with the 1/4 mile stuff if it's a real track, it'll be what they call "slick".

Stay loose and relaxed, smooth inputs, short-shift or taller gear if possible to keep it hooked up, a little softer shock and bar settings may help with grip. Tire temps will also be low adding to the lack of grip. Technically it can work to your advantage over other car/driver combinations.

I just try to be a whole lot smoother with all of my driver inputs, gas, brake, steering, everything. Sharp movements will surprise the tires more and once they loose grip it takes forever to get it back on wet pavement.

You can't make time up with aggressive driving on wet, but you dern sure can lose time driving aggressively.

I'm with Sieg, rain puts much much more into the driver's hands...I like racing in the rain.

I LOVE Racing in the Rain (mainly because most people hate it and therefore suck at it)!

1. Make sure your visibility is good. If you are wearing a Helmet, Crack the Visor. Put Rain-X Anti-Fog on the inside of your windshield

2. I think you need to slow your Mind down, which will slow your inputs down

Oh cmon guys this isn't the end of the world..a Lil rain. Trust me you will figured things out real quick as to how much "input" the car can take. You want a challenge come here during a winter storm that will teach you how to swing a car around

George and I are done and back at our respective hotels. Had a great dinner afterwards, and a really great time at the track.
