Default Doh!

Boy did I screw this up. I'm in the middle of assembling the new rear end for the car. I have custom axles made by Moser since I'm running Ford style housing ends. I totally screwed up by not having Moser drill access holes in the flange. I can't bolt the axles in now. I have no idea why I didn't say yes when he specifically asked if I needed them.

So now I have to find someone to drill the flanges for me. Anyone know the bolt circle radius for the GM 10 bolt backing plate bolts? Appears to be about 1-7/8". I sure hope whoever does this for me can do it without damaging the seals/bearings that are already pressed on.

Anyone else have a doh moment recently? I can't be the only one. Don't leave me hanging, guys!..... Guys?

I have a great one.
A friend of mine (really, not me) recently bought a used Fiero (don't start) for his grandson. In driving it around to fix little items, he put about 200 miles on it. All of a sudden it died, and he coasted into a gas station. No start, just cranked & sputtered. The gauge showed about 3/4 full.
So he went home & got his car hauler. Got home, changed the filter, and disconnected the lines at the throttle body. Nothing. With 70,xxx miles, he figured the pump was original, and was the culprit. As the tank is in the center of the car, between the seats, and it is 25+ years old, I offered him to bring it over to use my hoist. Unloaded it from the hauler, and pushed it uphill into my garage. Every bolt was petrified (this is Minnesota), and either stripped or broke. What a PIA! After about 3 hours, we lowered the tank with my tranny jack (he figured it had maybe 10 gallons in it by the gauge & how far he had driven since the last fillup), only to find an EMPTY TANK! And remember, he had coasted into a gas station a week earlier!

Feel a little better now?

You can undo the parking brake shoe from the backside and slide it up to give you more room to tighten the nuts.

I send all my axle jobs here.

Fast and great prices.

Thanks, Bill. I do feel a little better, lol.

Someone should start a screw up thread where we can all post our mistakes. It could be a learning and motivational thread.

Vince, I'm running Kore3's C5 rear brakes. I can't see how I'd be able to get the parking brake shoe off or on while everything is assembled as the bolts are covered up. Worst part is, I assembled the one side as mock up without the shoe so I could bend my new brake lines. I could tighten everything up then but it didn't dawn on me I wouldn't be able to once the shoe was in place.

Thanks

Oh ok, why did I assume you had another set up. Other styles have two bolts in the rear that you can remove. Yep, you need a drilling. Also check your axle register diameter. See it it fits into the rotor ok. I have them machined down to 5.9"
