Default Dan Gurney's new patented engine design

http://www.cycleworld.com/2015/09/09...NjQxMDIxNzA3S0

This all came about due to his Alligator motorcycle that he designed years ago. I was following that project from its' first press releases, pretty cool to see it evolve years later to this engine design. It will be fun to see what applications a motor of this design may find it's way into.

Very cool. Here's a link to the patent itself:

I've got an Alligator AAR shirt at home. Neat, unusual bike!

Without reading too much of it (I'm on my phone) my guess would be its referencing the bending moment of the crank.

I may be wrong but I believe in this case it is using the opposite rotation of the crankshafts and inertia created from them to cancel each other out. Same way that equal and opposite sound waves cancel each other out.

What’s “moment-canceling?” One of the things that strongly affects a motorcycle’s resistance to roll maneuvers (“flickability”) is flywheel gyroscopic moment. Just as the gyro moments of Yamaha’s twin-crank YZR500s canceled each other, so do those of Gurney’s new big twin.
