Hey guys,
I'm starting a new project and we are discussing suspension options. We are looking at buying a c5 corvette complete chassis setup but the wheelbase is about 6" too short. I've done some searching and it looks like the torque tube can be lengthened but I've not found any details to it. Has anyone here done that or had it done? If so could you please provide me with some details. Is it a simple cut and weld deal? Any help would be appreciated before we spend the money on the chassis. Thanks in advance
We have done it and can do it again.
We use new aluminum tubing.. Cut the ends off & machine the bell housing to accept the OD of the tube.. then weld it up!
You could probably cut the middle & add a section too, just have to make sure everything is perfectly square.
Driveshafts we usually source from Driveshaft Shop.
The length of extension will determine if you need a CF driveshaft or not. I extended one 8" and did not need to, but did need to go with a slightly larger tubing diameter.
