Default selling car online, payment and shipping questions..

Hey guys I listed my pontiac G8 forsale locally and on a few g8 enthusiast facebook groups. I got a guy in San Fransisco interested in purchasing and having the car shipped. I've only ever done local in person cash deals in the past. Can you guys head me in the right direction as far as what type of payment is safe for both me and him. And I am also looking for safe and trustworthy shippers. The car is located in Union MO. Any help is appreciated.

Defer to others on shipping companies, but here is a recent thread that had several recommendations on payment methods:

If selling to someone who is not local, I like to draft a bill of sale which states funds are to be sent via wire transfer in exchange for the car. Both parties sign the draft. You can send a 'copy' of the title with the draft bill of sale. This gives the buyer comfort that you actually own the car. The buyer then wires the money. After the seller confirms receipt of the wire at the bank, the seller then overnights the actual title to the new owner. The buyer now owns the car. I like to have the buyer arrange and pay for all transport on his own because this removes you from any issues if damage occurs in transport.

That is great information guys I really appreicate it. If he desides to purchase he will be financing thru a credit union, the bank may just send me a check direct, but he said he's fine with me holding the car for a week or two until everything clears. The guy seems very understanding and reasonable, I am just unfamiliar with this type of transaction.
