Default T56 - Shifter and ?'s for 66 Chevelle

I've just about got all the pieces for my T56 conversion. All I need is the tranny to arrive and my order from ATS.

(1) My car doesn't have a console and I don't plan on adding one. Do I want to build the new tunnel even with the shifter mount on the tranny or slightly above? If above, how much? I will be using the stock upper boot off a 66 to cover the hole, but I'm unsure of how much space I need.

(2) I know the shifter location will be back compared to stock, but I'm unsure what shifter will work best in our old cars. I've seen handles both straight up(Ripper) and with a bend in them (Pro 5.0 and Hurst B/P).

So what is everyone using for the shifters?

Thanks, Kerry
