Default Engine advise.. and contest of sorts

Hey,

Time to start formulating an engine build for my Fairlane. Here's what I need to do.

Run 11.70 minimum in the 1/4 mile
Cars weight is 3500 lbs.

Need to use a C4 auto transmission and line lock

can change out the differential to one with appropriate gearing

Now the fun part.. the engine.

351W based (can be a stroker, 408?)

Max budget for the engine (carb to pan with disty) is $6000

I imagine that to him my drag number I need over 500hp.

Also, this is a magazine deal so I need to use part for mainstream companies for obvious reasons. Barry Grant, Edelbrock, those sorts of people. The exception is if an offbeat place makes a part that is lightyears better than the other guys for around the same price.

Oh, has to run on CA pump gas so no crazy compression or an idle that completly sucks to cruise around town with.

So, give me your build ideas. If I pick on for this site I will send that person a prize. Nothing extravagant, but something fun.

The sooner I do this chore the sooner I can start working on handling and braking.
