I keep waxing back and forth....leaning towards getting one...

As for movies.....if I get one, it will be the basic 16 GB....when you do movies are you streaming them, Netflix, digital copies of DVD's you have etc etc.??... I'm assuming the 16 GB can handle a full lenngth movei no problem etc....

we dont have Netflix, but do have a few DVD's that include the digital copy etc...

Not planning on getting the one with 3G wireless capability...just cant justify the extra initial cost and the extra data plan...WiFi will be fine...dont do much business travel either

I have an iPad 1 basic 16GB. I load movies and TV shows via iTunes and Azul. Digital copies of movies are great if you get them via iTunes...at least I think so. Hope they will come out with the VLC app soon.

You might consider the 3G option and then just never activate it. That's what I did. Figure if I ever want to sell the darn thing it will help and it gives me options if I decide I need them. Remember you can do the data plan for just one month or for every month. Whatever fits your needs.

Like I said it's super slick and easy to use. I doubt you will regret getting one.

At&t's top tier 3G plan is only $25.00 a month. WAY to useful not to have it.

I load movies/tv shows on the hard drive, service isn't always connected well enough to stream, plus can't stream while flying. You could still go with a 16g, just means you'll need to manage what you have loaded a little closer.

I find that I surf more with the ipad and than my iphone. The bigger screen trumps every time. Plus you can use regular webpages instead of cobble down mobile ones.

So Instead I bought a MacBook Air since I can actually use it as a computer. Cant use the Ipad for my Excel, store files, etc.

So yeah, instead get a Macbook Air. Same size almost as the Ipad and WAY COOLER!!!!
I was a PC guy until earlier this year.. I got a 13" Air as my new laptop. I like my ipad... but LOVE the Air.

I am an Android guy myself. Several Family Members have iPads and iPad 2's. They love them. Personally I had an iPad for about 4 months and sold it to get the Asus TF101 when it came out. I've never looked back. I like the fact that I can simply pop in a memory card full of movies, pictures etc without having to deal with iTunes and syncing etc.. Yeah I know there is Drop Box and now iCloud, but for me there is just something about being able to swap some memory in and out as desired. I keep a card with movies on it to pop in when traveling - - I can easily throw .mkv files from my Media Center PC that I've recorded onto and it will play anything I can throw at it...OK - off my soap box.

If you like Apple stuff, which you obviously do since you have an iPhone. I think you will like an iPad. If you are open to other products, check out some of the Android Tablets.

I use my Tablet 85% of the time at home and only jump on the PC or Laptop for specific tasks.

From what I have see and heard about the IPad, it suffers from similar issues.

My wife asked for a tablet this Christmas and we looked at the IPad, Kindle Fire, and Nook.

The Nook was un-impressive as it only allows you 1GB space for non-B&N content.

The Fire is interesting, but we are in Europe often and it seems the Fire is zone locked. Also, see:http://video.msn.com?vid=d1a91e3b-8d...ermalink:uuids.

What I have been watching out for is the new nvidia tegra 3 CPU in a tablet (see: http://www.tegra3.org). It's the first quad core CPU for a tablet.

Just today Amazon started selling the ASUS TF201 (http://www.amazon.com/TF201-B1-GR-Tr...524162&sr=1-4). It's about the same price you are looking at, can be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich (the latest Android OS), has very good graphics and gives us space for videos, music, etc.

Here is the difference between dual cores and quad cores:

http://gigaom.com/mobile/nvidia-tegr...re-demo-video/

Win8 on tablet:

So, you can guess what the wife is going to get for Christmas.

Ok....so I bought one Just got the basic 16 GB one in black.

I've got a couple of DVD's that come with digital copies......is it possible to take my other existing DVD's (no digital copy included) and load them on there? Never done that type of stuff since I had no desire to watch a movie on some tiny screen on my iPhone etc.....

There may be other solutions out there, but from my experience when I had my iPad I did the following (which was a PTA, BTW). There are ways to rip the DVD - I won't go into all of that, but you will need to rip the DVD and then convert it to a format that the iPad likes. I think I used a program called "Handbrake". You then have to load the file onto the iPad through iTunes. This process was one of the frustrations I had with the iPad. It can be done, but most people just opt for the easy solution of just buying it again through iTunes, which I'm sure was part of the plan.......

I loaded 4 or 5 movies onto my iPad before a long trip and it took me all night the night before (literally, 4hrs) to get it done - and I already had the movies ripped. Now I just grab them and drag them onto my Android Tablet or toss them onto a card and away I go - -no converting files etc..

If you Google how to take a DVD and put it onto an iPad I'm sure there are a million different ways to do it.

Maybe someone with more iPad experience will chime in with a better solution. I don't mean to be a downer, but the experience of putting movies on my iPad was not easy.....

Good Luck!

An iPad (iPad 2 here) is one of those things you didn't know how fun or how many uses you find for it until you have one.

Watching movies on the go is just one of the very nice things, the screen is so much better than a small iPhone or iTouch so much so there are a lot of enhancements to the iOS ui just for the iPad, not to mention the much faster processor.

But it is basically a time wasting device, but it is very nice email reader, movie watcher, game playing one at that.

With my experience so far, I can see that being the case.
