Ok....so I bought one Just got the basic 16 GB one in black.

I've got a couple of DVD's that come with digital copies......is it possible to take my other existing DVD's (no digital copy included) and load them on there? Never done that type of stuff since I had no desire to watch a movie on some tiny screen on my iPhone etc.....

There may be other solutions out there, but from my experience when I had my iPad I did the following (which was a PTA, BTW). There are ways to rip the DVD - I won't go into all of that, but you will need to rip the DVD and then convert it to a format that the iPad likes. I think I used a program called "Handbrake". You then have to load the file onto the iPad through iTunes. This process was one of the frustrations I had with the iPad. It can be done, but most people just opt for the easy solution of just buying it again through iTunes, which I'm sure was part of the plan.......

I loaded 4 or 5 movies onto my iPad before a long trip and it took me all night the night before (literally, 4hrs) to get it done - and I already had the movies ripped. Now I just grab them and drag them onto my Android Tablet or toss them onto a card and away I go - -no converting files etc..

If you Google how to take a DVD and put it onto an iPad I'm sure there are a million different ways to do it.

Maybe someone with more iPad experience will chime in with a better solution. I don't mean to be a downer, but the experience of putting movies on my iPad was not easy.....

Good Luck!

An iPad (iPad 2 here) is one of those things you didn't know how fun or how many uses you find for it until you have one.

Watching movies on the go is just one of the very nice things, the screen is so much better than a small iPhone or iTouch so much so there are a lot of enhancements to the iOS ui just for the iPad, not to mention the much faster processor.

But it is basically a time wasting device, but it is very nice email reader, movie watcher, game playing one at that.

Now you guys got me thinking about a droid pad. I got an iPhone and love it, but am not much of a cOmputer guy really. Heck, I do all my surfing on the phone. But at work I use alot of Microsoft Publisher and office stuff, zero mac stuff. If I could do alot of estimates away from the office it would make my home life better I think. I am just at work alot of hours doing the "paperwork" crap that takes time. Is there any drawing or drafting style apps that anyone knows of that could be used on a roof and loaded into the office pc?
Also, can you tether (if that is what it is called?!) to the iPhone for wifi on the road?

Went to a friends house last night for dinner and they have an iPad, so my kids were messing with it...they asked my wife if she wanted one and she flat out said .. "No, dont really have any interest in one.... I'm on a computer all day at work".......great....

Tuff sh*t....I got you one....and you'll love it..

The bottomline is that I know I'll use it 10x as much as her, so one way or another it will get used...

As for movies....I've been using WinX to convert some movies over to iPad and iPod format so they will be ready to try out Xmas day. We got my son an iPod Touch, so he can load some movies too....its an Apple Xmas

I tried Handbrake but its not very user friendly and it wouldnt decode the movies I tried....I guess they have Disney X coding. It went through the process but the image was all scrambled up. So I just shelled out some $$ and bought a program....seems to work pretty easy and decodes all the DVD's

I do have my computer hooked to my TV via wireless, but havent used the feature much....seems to be hit or miss if they connect easy, and they transfer speed seems pretty slow. I can look at our stored pictures etc, but its not very fast......not sure DVD movies will work very well

I have a Samsung TV and the Samsung PC Share Manager software blows...... it never seems to work very well....its slow as hell and seems to crash constantly.

Any suggestions of other software on Windows 7 to allow my TV to find my computer and access stuff on it via wireless connection?

I'd love to be able to stream stuff off my PC wireless to my TV and use the Ipad to control it....
