Wow you know what weird is that my 2004 Chevy Avalanche with 54,000 miles, Did the same thing like 3 weeks ago now its all the way back to 0 and doesn't move.
Last week though I got a letter from GM stating this problem and that you should take it to the dealer to get fixed and that they will add another 7 year warranty to the instrument cluster.

That is weird. I havn't got a letter though. Do you have any trouble with the steering or rear end? I've got a little rattle I can feel in the wheel, plus when you turn at slow speeds there is a squeaking sound. The rear limited slip unit is ratcheting hard too. I'm going to have it all looked at when I take it in. My buddy has an 03 sierra 4x4 ext. with 52k on and had the same rear and steering problems I just mentioned. No speedo issue though. Just curious. Thanks.

Intermediate steering shaft. It's a common problem......You never know if they will just re-grease the old one, or put the revised part in. The part number for the revised part is 19153614 per TSB 00-02-35-003M. My '03 GMC has been in 7 or 8 times for this issue. Good luck!!!!!

The rear end lockers are all noisy....and the Dealership should be able to look up the status of the recall on the instrumentation. My letter of recall was written 7/18/07.

I'm buying a Tundra next time.

The speedo is the only problem I have had with the Avalache.
I'm really pleased with it.
I wouldn't buy a tundra after seeing this video

Those of you that know me know that I mean no disrespect to GM. I am a die-hard GM guy. I have just not had good luck. My first '03 that I bought was a total pile and the dealership bought it back. Although I love the second GMC that I got in '03, it has been through:

(3)-6 disc changers (1 inoperable, 2 with burnt out LED's)
(7, or 8) times regarding the steering hsaft
(1) water pump
(1) window regulator bolts loose
(1) reprogram t-case per bullitin 03-04-21-005
(1)Warranty alignment

Plus several other little rattle/squeaks. It's hard not to be a little upset. I have had work done on this truck EVERY 3000 miles (or every oil change). It now has 35,500 miles on it, and not 1 door ding.
