And yes, I need a new steering wheel. I'm hoping to get a LeCarra wheel when I finally get a new job.

Oh, and after seeing the Ultralite II's at my last job, I want to replace all mine with those. Sometimes I hate you Autometer....

Bowtieracing, our OEM business is separate from our aftermarket instrument business, and generally has significant order quantities involved. The Ford GT instruments image that you're referring to are the actual gauges we produced specifically for Ford for use in those production vehicles. We are currently working with Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota, and several other manufacturers on different projects.

With regard to your question looking for something in a more "OE" style, a lot of our development efforts of late have been working in that direction. I would say that Vegas69's suggestion is an excellent one. Sport-Comp II instruments are one of my personal favorites right now. We also have just introduced our GS series gauges, which have cleaner styling and green LED through the dial lighting, and might just fit the bill of what you're looking for.

I've provided a link to this product family for your reference:

http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugeop.aspx?sid=68

Further, I should mention that we also produce a Bowtie branded series of gauges that feature the same lighting as the Sport-Comp II gauges for GM Performance Parts. I'm out of the office this week but will try to post some images when I get back to my desk.

Is it possible to get more speedometer choices that go to 200 or higher.

Many of the engine available now offer that potential.

Thanks a million, you will be hearing from me on my project.

Now guys, no need to fight, we've got plenty of gauges for the both of you.

Sorry Zbugger, it wasn't our intention to make you hate us. We're just trying to keep improving the products that we have to offer. Please say you'll still be our friend.

tyoneal, great suggestion. Do you guys have any particular series that you'd like to see 200mph speedos offered in? Also, would you prefer 3 3/8" or 5" sizes? I'll pass your comments on to our Design and Development team.

I appreciate your notice. I will attempt to satisfy your specifics. It might be a bit long winded, however in an effort to present a clear picture, I think the words need to paint a vivid picture. If there is ANY problem with your understanding of this post, please feel free to PM me or call. I would be happy to assist you in anyway possible.

I really prefer the Black Face, "Back lit", gauges. To me, I think they are more traditional, and what you will normally find in the Real Top End Super Cars.

In addition, Given that a number of us are, "Investing", a fair amount of money in our Cars, The option of the Gauge Turning, "RED", if there is a problem would also be a really nice option to have in a number of the Styles. (If Nothing Else in the More Traditional Gauges)

I have a Porsche that notifies the driver when there is a problem with some aspect of the car. It is very helpful and when traveling at speed, it's really helpful.

One thing else you might consider as an option is to have a indicator that notifies the Driver During the Day if there is a Problem. In the Porsche it is a Red Light in the middle of the dash that will come on during the day or night to alert the driver. It will flash initially to get the drivers attention, at that point, the driver pushes the light which will turn off the flashing aspect, however it will stay illuminated until the problem is taken care of.

Once the driver turns the blinking light off, it will start blinking again if another issue of the car is in need of attention.

Overall, these work day or night and are EXTREMELY helpful for the Driver. Many of the engines in our cars are $15,000 - $50,000+. We definitely need the ability to monitor our cars whether night or day. A number of us like to Track our Cars which can put us in the 150 mph - 200+ mph range. The gauges need to be able to Alert the drive, not merely point into a "Bad" range on the gauge face.

As far as a Speedometer surpassing the 200 mph mark, I'm not sure what all is involved, however, I'm pretty sure they will be a very popular choice. Most of our cars will never do 200 mph+, however it has a real big, "COOL", Factor. That in itself should sell a bunch of them.

Is it difficult to add a 200, 220, 240 mph option to your gauges, or is it for the most part just a Cosmetic Change? (Dial Face)

Incidentally, there is a universal Icon for, "Attention", or, "Alert". I would suggest you use this symbol for the Light for the dash as it will be better accepted for your overseas market.

Further, the shape being that of a "Triangle", I believe is also a universal Icon for attention.

I think you would really advance the sophistication of your product line especially by offering these warning features. Even if it is sold separately and the gauges could be plugged into an optional warning unit, I think this flexability would be a big asset to your customers and your product line.

With regards to the size of the gauges, the more the better. Each person and their car will have there own needs to properly monitor the car and assist the Driver, therefore picking a specific size would be a difficult question to answer. I will give this additional thought in an effort to provide you with some accurate and logical information.

I hope this helps.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Ty O'Neal

One suggestion I have is on the 5" tach and speedo I'd actually like to see the print of the numbers not so big. I've got the all Ultra Lites for gauges and although I love the overall look, the font for the numbers on the speedo come off as a bit obnoxious. Unfortunately it's not something you really notice until you have the gauges in your hands, it's hard to tell from a picture in a catalog. I think bringing them down a font size or two would really clean the look of the face up and still make them easy to read.

tyoneal:

I'd suggest that you check out our Nexus line of gauges if you're not familiar with them. They have the black face and user programmable full dial warnings that you're looking for. Admittedly the speedo is still a 160mph unit, but the rest of the features are there, plus they have peak recall, user selectable display color, and full record capability. Warnings are user selectable for each gauge with full dial alert, if the warning is exceeded by 10% of your set point the whole display blinks to grab your attention. If they're not to your liking, we also now offer several Peak/Warn gauges in our Ultra-Lite line. Several of the Sprint Cup teams are running them currently. They're not a full dial alert, but the LED warning light built into the face of the gauge is bright enough that you're not going to miss it, yet not obnoxious enough that it's going to blind you. Other than that, we've got a couple of mid-year releases in the works presently that fall somewhere between what we currently have available in our Generation Two instruments and what you're describing, I'll post some more information here as soon as I'm able.

The 200mph+ speedos are more than a dial change unfortunately, due to rescaling the movements to make the scale fall within the pointer sweep area. If there are more folks out there interested in this, let me know what series design and size you would prefer.

Karps TA:

Thanks for the suggestion. The fonts on the larger tach and speedo instruments were designed to match from one to the other. Since the Ultra-Lite series was designed first as a race product that then became popular with street vehicles, the fonts on the tachometers (and later the speedometers) are larger and bolder in order to make them easier to view at speed. I don't believe at this time that we will change the font size on the Ultra-Lite products due to their prominence in motorsports, but I'll pass it along to our design team for thought on future gauge designs. Some other current offerings like Sport-Comp II and Cobalt have fonts that you might find to be less obtrusive.

Kris, welcome aboard. Got a few questions. I like the Ultra lite II gauges but on you web sight they show red lighting and on Scotts car the show yellow.can the colors be changed? also is there a option for a crome or billet outer ring?

The image on Auto Meter's website of the illuminated ULII's is the same as my pic(s). The lettering is yellow, the numbers are white, and the needle is red. The needle gives off a red glow that lights up the inside of the bezel and makes it look red.

Kris this is great news. I think if you could offer more choises with 200mph it would intrest many of us. Not at we really need it but it gives speedos a lot more modern look than "old school 160". I would definitely order Sport comp II as 5" in dash 200mph speedo, not to mention rest of the gauges..
