Default Tough time at the restoration shop

Took my "67 to a local shop that does great work on Memorial Day weekend to get firewall smoothed, bottom sand blasted and install minitubs. I have paid much more than what was estimated and none of the work is completed. Can anyone tell me my options. I'm even having a hard time getting my car back now because they don't want their name out there for this situation. Any suggestions? Please.

What happened? Did they find unexpected damage or rust?

First if you know any lawyers in your town call them first for their opinion. THen I would go there and tell them to give your car back. (be ready to take it) If they wont give it back tell them that you are willing to call in the police to have your car removed from their shop. If they dont give it up call the police. Maybe they want storage for the car, if they havent done any work then thats all I could see they have for a case. But they will need to prove when it was dropped as well as you too. Hopefully they didnt take parts off and conveniently lost them.

Default No

I was told "it took more hours than anticipated" and a shrug of the shoulders.
This is all new to me so I'm somewhat a fish out of water.

Did you have a written agreement of how they were to charge you?

I would just "nip" this in the butt. Talk to the owner and ask for a phone call before they move on stuff like this. If you dont speak up they'll just keep on doing this.

First of all, why did you pay? Second, do you have a copy of the repair order/estimate? if none of the work is done and you have proper paperwork, find a civil court lawyer and with simple letter you can get the car back, now to get the $$ back,is a bit harder, if you never signed any repair orders and the shop has no paperwork, you can legally just take the car back
