I was told earlier this week I have an extremely rare form of cancer.
The cancer (aggressive digital papillary adenocarcinoma) will require amputation of my ring finger and the surrounding tissue in my hand.
After surgery (3/4/09), I will undergo a full body MRI and bone scan to look for other tumors. If present, I will undergo chemo and whatever surgery deemed necessary to remove the cancer.
I was told that 50% of the people with this cancer generally have other tumors, most of which are attached to the lung tissue.
I would like to tell you more about the cancer but with only 26 known cases of this cancer in the previous 10 years, the data just doesn't exist. My doctor is the chief MD at UCSF (MT ZION), so I feel good about that.
I've spent so much time on this board and I feel that I know most you personally. My family and I ask for your prayers in this time of crisis. My wife and two kids are extremely worried and rightfully so.
I will frequent the board over the next couple months but regretfully, I have to put the build on hold for a while.
Wow..Very sorry to hear that Richard. I'm hoping for the best for you. The Docs do seem to be making advances in fighting Cancer so I'm going to assume they will have yours beat.
WOW! I hope the surgery goes really well and you beat this cancer. My father was diagnosed with throat cancer about 3 years ago. When he went through kemo and radiation it was hard on him and the family. You never want to see you loved ones in any type of discomfort. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Hay Rich it is huge bummer to hear about the results from the last few weeks of medical issues you have had. My thoughts and prayers are with you my friend. You sir are a fighter and I know just as in anything in life you are a fighter and you too can beat this struggle in life. Some day soon you will be back up in the air flying planes and enjoying your love, and hopefully we can finish you camaro so you can fly on the ground. Keep your chin up and never stop fighting for every minute you can spend with those you love.
Life is short and all our days are numbered, you just have to fight to get as many as you can.
I lost my mom 3 years ago, after 8 years of fighting cancer.
I was shocked to say the least when i read your post this morning.
The most important thing you can do for yourself and your family is to have a positive mental attitude and surround yourself with positive people.
I was diagnoised 3 years ago with Thyroid Cancer. They did the first surgery and removed 3 of the tumors from the right side of my neck. I still have one tumor on the left side that they are afraid to operate on as i may lose one of my vocal cords and the nerve that allows me to breath through my mouth. But with Diet, Exercise, Prayer and a Positive attitude the tumor keeps getting smaller from visit to visit.
If you every need someone to talk with that been through it you can call me anytime. 630.234.2488 I make the time to talk because i know how important it is to have a good support group when your going through tough times.
My prayers are with you and your family.
