Default Collection Notice From HOT ROD

Are you serious? Is the magazine business that bad that when I choose not to re-new the subscription to that crappy magazine they automatically extended the subscription and then bill me, then send it to collections when I don't pay?

Has any one else gotten one of these?

I haven't received a copy of that magazine since the subscription ran out in April.

That's nuts! First I've heard of that kind of thing.

Are you sure you didn't obligate yourself to pay later. A collection slaughters your credit score so I'd look into it.

Positive, it is a scam. You can google North Shore Agency, and a ton of scam info comes up. It is just a racket to grab more subscriptions. I just did not renew, period. Should be interesting, My best friend since high school is also my corporate attorney. His summer intern is going to rattle some cages at North Shore Agency tomorrow... I will keep you posted!

First I've heard of it.. scan the notice and email it to me. I will forward it to the powers that be.

The only time I've head of collections like this is where you send the card, get the magazines (or start getting them) and then fail to pay. Many times it's done by an outside company.

anyways, send me a note with a copy of the notice. I wll kick it upstairs. They really don't like when companies piss our our customers...

Steve, It is done by an outside company. I also agree with you, but the issue here is I NEVER FILLED OUT THE NEW CARD! Even then, it is suspect. In order to be held for collections of anything, according to the consumer credit act, there must be a contract. I didn't ask my attorney, however, my guess would be that a subscription card and checking the box to be billed later does not constitute a contract. They send 1 maybe 2 magazines, a ton of bills, a person doesn't pay, they stop the magazines, drama over.

We have a customer (former!) in collections right now, we supplied the guy with 1000's parts. Economy slows down, he bails on his remainder blanket order of parts, we turn him over to the attorneys for collection. Not only has he not paid me for a portion of the parts, he is being sued for collection on the remainder of the blanket order of parts, parts I have not delivered! The reason I can do this? The contract.

Like I stated earlier, I did not renew the subscription. I did not get one issue beyond the run out date of April

Steve, thanks for looking in to it. I do not have a scanner at home and I am not going to the office today. I can fax it to you if you would like. Just PM me and I will send it over.

Darren

What a scam. Keep us up to speed. I'd suspect that Source Interlink would also be interested in what you find out as the last thing they need is bad publicity of this nature spreading like wildfire across the net.
