There is no way an economy or society can continue to grow forever. How is the next generation going to afford a house or start a business? This recession gives all the young folks a chance to make some wise investments, open a business, and afford a new home at historically low rates. There are always two ways to look at everything. Attitude is everything, no matter how hard that may be.

I still see people losing jobs and jobs are not easy to come by neither. They were in such a rush to push it through, but I don't see any results.

So here's what you'll NEVER KNOW -- what it would be today had they NOT PASSED the package.

We're in uncharted waters. This is a very different recession than what we've all be through in the past. The 80/81 recession was HIGH interest rates and high inflation - but you knew what you were up against and could move to combat the business decline etc. This time around - I don't think "we" really know what to do. In 80/81 I could still sell inventory. I could still borrow money. I'm no longer in business and have been retired for many years now (thanks honey!) but I doubt anyone would be lending me money against inventory/receivables now... and selling ANYTHING these days - you'd better be willing to take a huge haircut.

That isn't OBAMAS fault... not sure who's fault it is... or how to fix it... I think it will mostly just take some time for everyone to adjust to the new reality. Best be in a position to not have to borrow. That's a better way to live anyway.

Good attitude! And I keep reminding people that even if you have 15% unemployment - you still have 85% of the people WORKING... Do we focus on the 'bad' number - or get busy selling something to the 'good' number of people.

Look at Apples results yesterday -- SALES ARE UP.... Profit is UP... so the key is have something people want. If you're a home builder... or carpenter... I'm sorry for you - but the overbuilding was evident to everyone but the banks and builders. It had to end.

I also agree with the commenter about our tax situation. I'm so F'n sick of supporting illegals - welfare (white / black I don't care!) - and freeloaders of the 'system'. Our government wasn't supposed to be about 'entitlements' -- it's supposed to build roads - schools - and DEFENSIVE military (whatever that entails)... but that's all changed now - because EVERYBODY gets to live large now!

I know it is tough get a loan or get a mortgage going. And that this is a very "different" kind of recession than that of the past. I guess I'm just anxious to get back to work and "be useful" again!! lol

We're about to see it here. The Feds gave the money to the states, and it's up to them to spend it. They have to figure out how and where to do that.

Here, in our little town, they were going to charge a bunch of local businesses to build a frontage road along the highway. Here's the story:

Property Owners Won’t be Assessed for Frontage Road

The Belle Plaine City Council Monday night unanimously approved a resolution officially supporting the 2009 South Frontage Road/Enterprise Drive extension project.
A portion of the language in the resolution states that the affected property/business owners shall not be assessed for the 2009 South Frontage Road/Enterprise Drive extension project in light of the city’s recent $2 million award of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for the project, often referred to as stimulus funds. The resolution adds that the city shall proceed with the state bidding requirements for the start of work this fall or early winter with an anticipated completion time of October 2010.
According to City Administrator David Murphy, property owners will not have to pay for any share of the project, which was also the case when the North Frontage Road project was constructed. That project was also partially state funded. Murphy added that the total estimated cost of the South Frontage Road project is a little over $3 million. What the ARRA funds won’t cover will be paid for by the city. All right-of-way for the road was donated by property owners and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.



So, we're definitely going to see results here, but it'll take some time to get everything rolling.

Minnesota will get more than $11 million in stimulus money to hire 53 police officers.

The grants announced today will fund the officers' salaries for three years. Each police department will then have to pay the officers for a fourth year.

St. Paul will get money for 28 officers and Minneapolis 13.



It seems the money took time to be distributed, but it IS being distributed and used for projects (like the roads) and to hire more cops. These things take time when the Govt (both federal and state) are involved.
