I agree.

That's what the cops and insurance are for.

YEP.. we had a dirt bag pull a gun here at work when confronted by a sales manager in the middle of the DAY- we still got him- but it could have been a different story- "man dies over confrontation of stolen property- valued at $20!!!"

no piece of metal is worth me touching a thief who might be might be HIV- or have a gun - or knife- that being said- I probably would have had adrenalin flowing and done the same thing- I HATE THIEVES!!!

Yeah cause cops always are in the right place and right time and insurance that's another laugh...

Plus cops don't bother chasing car thefts...atleast around here.

Glad you got him..

In MA, if he gets so much as a hangnail while breaking in or or hurt feelings while you trying to verbally stop him, you'll get sued and probably lose. I envy those of you that live in states where citizens are neutered. The criminals have more rights than law-abiding folks.

Had it been me, It would take every molecule (and then some) in my body to restrain myself.

Great job John!

a few miles north of Worchester its live free or die, CCW is 14 days away and go figure its number 1 on the best places to live in the US Per fourtune Magizine. Crime rate is LOW and unemployment is 4%... No state income taxes.. If it werent for the !#$% Snow and lack of car fun I would love it

That screwdriver can be considered a deadly weapon. The thief should count his blessings he still has a pulse. I'm glad you didn't get hurt or any legal trouble. I think you handled it good, but there was a serious risk to your life by making physical contact.

Like Frank said coming at you with a screwdriver calls for a round or two from the 45. Florida is pretty lenient on homeowners protecting themselves and property. I once had officer tell me it is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I will live on the motto.
Glad you made out alright. The car can be fixed.

Holy crap John!
Im not sure myself If thats was the right move. But in the heat of things sometimes thinking comes 2nd.
I had a F350 with about 1500 miles on it stolen out of my driveway about 6yrs ago in our lovely suburbs and seen it going down the street as I was coming home about midnight. I followed the guy to a gas station (while calling 911) and confronted him almost the same time the cops showed up. It doesnt make a difference anymore where you live. If your close to an on ramp to the highway there gone.
The future problem was that on the police report my full name, info, etc where known to him. Nothing became of this after he served his time but it definitely puts you in a cautious situation everyday.

Good to here it worked to your advantage!
Dave

glad to hear it went ok and you got him

After having a knife pulled on me a few years ago by some trench coat punk it has opened my eyes. Glad your safe.

My brother got his new Denali broken into night before last. All they took were his CD's, wheel lock, day planner, and his business cards-like a box of them! He had his checkbook and garage door opener and a few other things of value in there that they left. He has some gangsta looking wheels 24" Dub, so they will probably be back.
