Out of curiosity, I wonder what the loophole was?

It was also a Rally America event. Any car with an RA logbook could enter the rally. He wasn't in the top WRC class. He also beat 400k rally cars that broke or crashed out.

It's a really cool story but the author is pretty vague about the circumstances.
