In his signature, it says; "I have some tools... would someday like to have some skill using them... " but the truth is that he has a buttload of tools that would actually make many shops jealous and he knows how to use every one of them expertly! He's even a great welder and can weld aluminum and steel like nobody's business. He even repaired a very thin-wall lug key of mine with his welder that looked like it was fixed by a jeweler.
I've had the privilege of hanging out with Greg the past few months because the new LS2 in the Buick broke a valvespring and was stranded at another Lat-g member's house for a day so when Greg found this out, he just hitched up his trailer and came down to drag it home to the dream shop and said "there is no schedule, rush, thrash or timeline, we'll get to it when we feel like it and take our sweet time doing it right" which was a huge relief that has been almost therapeutic and made the kick in the teeth of the failed valvespring such a non-issue that was purely a blessing in disguise. Since it failed right at the end of Summer and my machinist wanted to go through the motor to make sure nothing happened on the bottom end, we just took our sweet time working on it a day here and a day there when we weren't tied up with life, travel, family and business and it was a lot of fun.
Greg is so thorough and meticulous that he would see something that was overlooked in the motor-swap thrash or an aftermarket part that wasn't holding up like he thought it should and he would just announce that was our project on this day or that and we'd make it right. No bolt went into anything without getting Loctite or anti-seize and then torqued with the beeping electronic torque wrench to factory specs.
There were also explicit instructions to leave ALL tools on the cart and not to put them away "because you'll misplace them and lose them forever and screw up my whole system!"
We had a great time through it all and Greg is good company and good people and I learned a great deal during the process. He is a true example of the kind of people that reside at this forum and I'm glad to call him my friend.
I drove the car home on Friday and it was even better than before. I look forward to a few more dry winter days to get out with it and fully intend to flog it all Spring and Summer this coming year with all the bugs completely worked out because it's ready so far in advance of the break in the NW weather.
Greg is a very cool and knowledgable guy. I met him for a short few days at RTTC 1, and he treated me like a friend. Also helped a few guys "learn" how to tie a car to a trailer.
Jay, I knew that your car was there....Greg certainly came to the rescue! We are very lucky to have such a nice guy with as much history and knowledge as Greg has! Not only in the NW but on this forum as well! He's a true asset to the hobby! Stories like this is what it's all about!!
