As I am sure you know....excessive overheating can cause ring failure, kills the valve springs etc . And If the oil gets hot enough, It will break down and will not lubricate the cylinder walls, bearings and just kills them.

With the temps you described, I would say you collapsed your rings, maybe scorched a piston and your cylinder walls are now distorted.. aka out of round. Your low oil pressure may be due to the bearing clearances opening up due to the excessive heat

Your car sounds awesome !!! I'm sure you'll make her bigger and badder then it is now
Thanks Jerry. Appreciate it.

Yeah it could easily be and is likely one or more of those issues you mentioned. Won't know til we open it up. Debating on taking it to GG Pleasanton AutoX in 10 days as is. It's just a short peanut course and lasts 30 seconds tops and I don't see more than 5500 rpm.... Hmmm...

Bigger and badder is definitely in the works...

After talking to my boss this may not be the issue with your oil pressure, as the clearances wouldn't change enough to worry. You may have scuffed a rod or main bearing. Since you're going to run it again, you should check your oil filter for bearing material. BTW I sent you a friend request over on FB

Email me you bonehead... after you and Rich come up with some plan. I have LOTS of engine parts that could be of use to you.

I think you need a big cubic inch small block but with some piston in it so you're not scuffing the cylinder walls and you have some oil control. So maybe a raised deck SBC with your other top secret stuff you told me about.

Big inches is big torque and trust me when I tell you I have a SBC that revs faster than you can catch it! They just have to be built right.

Jerry, Are you advising Mr. Gordon that he should've pulled off the track when his coolant temperature gauge crested 250 degrees and his oil temp needle was buried?

250 with no oil pressure? I feel like a wimp, I pulled into the pits after at 230 and a little oil pressure.

Maybe you also have two blown head gaskets?

Matt

10-4 the oil is a little dark so we'll check the filter too.

Oh so YOU are Jerdog? I'm glad you told me!

Thanks Ben Stein... I'll email ya. I agree and do want to stay below a 4" stroke but maximize cubes... so maybe a 420 or 422 with a 3-7/8 crank. I need good cubes to swallow the big ports of my new heads to make decent torque... and yeah, a tall deck block would be ideal.

I like lightweight parts for fast revs.

Hey, it was 240 when I pulled over.... it was 250 when I restarted it to reverse back out into the safe zone off the track.

I heard a good one this weekend re the solution for high oil temps... just don't run an oil temp gauge.

Well to be fair the temps shot up from 201 to 240 very quickly and I was planning on pulling over soon. Maybe just not soon enough.

230 ain't nuttin for those LS motors I hear... but your motor is also worth 5x as much as mine.

Blown head gasket(s) is a strong possibility... we lost a lot of water since Saturday already too.... but no water in the oil.

Yup... same 377 I've been workin hard since late 2010... and it was built in about 2000. Sucker was built well!

As of now I am looking a bigger cube small block with a serious top end and shaft rockers... I just dont have the power when Im below 4500 rpm and that costs me serious time....

Great job at RTTC Dave. I have a feeling your next motor is going to be a serious contender.
