Well we got some changes here fellas. When building a motor from scratch with a professional every change no matter how seemingly insignificant I'm finding can have a chain reaction of changes.
2 things we discovered just today that are key are that the heads have a combustion chamber of 47.5 cc (I was told 55 by seller). Ok that's ok and where Mike figured they would be in his experience with these heads, but it changes his comfort level of maximum efficiency of a dish piston required to achieve my targeted 11:1 compression. Remember, this is a STREET car

.
He wants no more than 20 or so cc's in the dish to maintain "efficiency" and to do this we need to shorten the stroke a tad. That actually works out fine since I discovered today my crank that was ordered 2 weeks ago on a 6-8 week delivery estimate is now 4-5 months out.
The good thing is I only will lose a few cubes (about 7) by going to the 3.562 stroke. AND that stroke is supposedly easier to get and I should be able to get my crank here sooner to possibly speed up this build time.
I've also been researching my GM 053 intake that came with my top end that was supposedly ported by Reher Morrison. Doesn't appear that is the case and Mike says during our chat today that this intake is by far the weak link in my system and could cost as much as 50 hp. Ouch. Unacceptable. Talked to him about viable options (NOT the 18 degree intake on his shelf with 40 hrs of porting that I can have for $2000) and I brought up a 2 piece Edelbrock intake I saw on ebay yesterday that was ported by Wilson. The ad listed the port size and it was nearly dead nuts to the ports he measured on my heads. He said grab em so I got the intake for $350. Quite a bit less than $2000.
So, a couple curveballs today but I like where it's headed now.
