Call Anvil, they should know better than anybody. It is a volume game as Greg mention.

yeah, once they went with dimensional pricing a few years ago it screwed everything up. The last large items I shipped were sent Greyhound, much cheaper than UPS or FedEx. The only problem is they do not deliver to your doorstep, so the recipient will have to go to the bus station to pick them up.

I second the Greyhound recommendation. When I was trying to ship the fiberglass nose from my Firebird (about 10 pounds total), the costs via FedEx and UPS were crazy! Even the truck freight was ridiculous.

Greyhound was by far the cheapest option. You just have to make sure that the box will fit. The inner fenders probably would, but a hood was too wide. It has to fit in the luggage area under the bus.

Package them up real well, box them, and take them to the drop off location. Actually, box them and call Greyhound to make sure the boxes will fit. You need all 3 dimensions and the weight.

That's your best bet that I know of. Good luck!

Oh, forgot to mention a second option. It likely won't be as cheap as Greyhound, but you can at least research it.

Get yourself a pallet, just the right size for the boxes (slightly larger), stack the two boxes, and strap them to the pallet. You can them ship the pallet that way. I Googled freight pricing, and I believe this was the site which I used:

http://www.freightavenue.com/default.aspx

You can go there and at least get quotes on the pricing with the to/from zip codes and weight. Definitely specify that the pallet is non-stackable. It costs a little more, but you don't have a choice.

The freight class tends to be confusing, and I pissed off a shipper once when specifying the wrong one (I didn't know better).

Worth a try...

BTW, are those dimensions correct? 120" seems a bit long, unless that was a centimeter measurement. Actually, I'm gonna guess that's the case.

Mario, I have done both Grayhound and freight. Grayhound is cheap I sent a complete ground effects setup including front and rear covers to Cal and it was like 60 or so. As for freight I used to buy and sell lots of big items on eBay and if you do not ship freight a lot it will cost you a lot. Well I started talking to the salvage yard I used all the time and they where more then happy to help me get their rates. Also as Greg stated check with DHL I have used them in the past also. I bought a pallet of R12 30lb bottles form the warehouse club some years ago, well then I saw that I wouldn't need that much is I started to sell them off one at a time and found out that DHL was the only one willing to handle these and at very good rates.

Bryan is correct; the box size from Anvil is smaller.

Although I did ship a hood 2x from Cali to the Midwest (close to Rick) for about $400...

Rough deal...

I pay $85 USD per 15cu/ft to get stuff here to New Zealand..(about as far away from the US you can get..besides the moon). For any Oz based guys they serve you too, PM me if you want info.

It's getting it to the dock in CA that hurts!

Give www.uship.com a try, there's lots of people just driving around the country delivering whatever, you may get it done for a good price if there's someone driving through.
