sorry about the long delay, i didnt get notified of the posts... but i do have it set up in my control panel to get email updates... anyways.

the fingerprint scanner is now on the back burner at the moment. I'm looking into a rolling code rfid system that will unlock your doors and enable a push button start when you get within a few feet of the car. The issue is that they don't have a lot of systems out there that are cost effective and secure. I am exploring some alternatives to rfid where i can design a rolling code functionality to the whole system.

if i can't do it securely and cost effectively then i'll go back to the fingerprint scanner method.

If it goes well and proves to be reliable I'll do a small run for the forums if there is any interest.

I went with Advanced Keys (http://www.advancedkeys.com/) and just finished the install.

This is a very well designed and thought out kit and the technical help team is great about responding in a timely manner to e-mails.

It uses RFID and it'll integrate into existing alarms, power windows/door locks, allow for remote engine start, remote trunk opener, etc. It also had generic inputs/outputs to allow you to customize functions. Example: I used a generic "ground when armed" circuit to facilitate a fuel pump cutoff circuit... I walk away from the car and the system automatically disables the fuel pump.

The only thing with these keyless start systems is you have to address the column lock if you want true keyless start. I ended up eliminating my column lock (took the plate out of the column and ground the "teeth" off of it). With my anti-theft features, they'd have to tow the car if they really wanted it that bad, so column-lock or no, all bets are off at that point.

The set up comes with an OEM Lexus button too...

Here's a short video of it operating...

I second everything that ULTM8Z said about the Advanced Key system.

I have one in my 69 Camaro with the RFID, etc. It works great and is simple to understand. Its no more difficult to hook up than a typical remote starter (which it can actually be used as if you get the card/remote with buttons). I have an LS motor with the GM controller in it as well as an American Autowire harness. Its also tied into the door locks with no issues.

Here is a quick video of a start/shut down
