What I just can't understand is there is plenty of advance notice -- and on here and "that other place" -- there are all these guys that profess to want to build or own big time "pro touring" cars... they have the big horsepower - the big brakes - every expensive part known to man....

FOR WHAT? To go sit at a car show in a chair all day? REALLY?

Here's an opportunity for people to drive on some of the greatest tracks in the USA... WHO CARES IF YOU CAN'T DRIVE --- WHO CARES IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME... WHO CARES THAT YOU HAVE ZERO CHANCE TO WIN ANYTHING... OMG!!

Hanging out with experienced people that are there to help -- talking to the supporting vendors that are there to support you -- just F'n BEING THERE.... And don't tell me it's the COST! You bungholes spend 5K on wheels - and 6K on brakes... for what? 'Cause they're pretty? GO USE 'EM!!

IF YOU'RE DEAD FRIGGIN LAST SO WHAT. Everybody -- and I mean EVERYBODY started somewhere. Ya think Kyle popped out and jumped in a car and drove? He started out - Maier started out - Tim started out SOMEWHERE. They have FREE instructors for gawds sake! If ya did nothing for the whole weekend but rode around with them you'd have had the time of your life!

Seriously - you guys are blowing it big time.

Off my stand.... but I'm seriously disappointed in the community for not "getting it".

Dan Howe with the wrangler Monte Carlo told me a story that explains how he feels about the events, in the drivers meeting on Sunday he raised his hand and asked if he could sign up for next year's event at Daytona... right now...

And he traveled halfway across the country to get there and drive his garage built car on the high banks of Daytona.

Default So true,,,

I was talked into doin an autocross run, I didn't even plan on it, just content with being a spectator. I did it and in my mind I won! I made a vow to run my car at every Florida event. I learned alot from Daytona as a spectator and next time I am gonna be a participant.

What Greg said...

The USCA has three classes - novice, advanced, and expert. Everyone here falls in to one of those classes. At Daytona there were four cars in novice - by the time folks were on their 7th (!!!!) 20 minute session there was one novice car out on Daytona... by himself... under the lights - how cool is that?

Jet Hot Coatings supplied five very experienced instructors - that anyone could use - for free - on the road course and autocross. Heck, Kyle Tucker took advantage of an instructor (who begged to be let out of the car after the first lap for what it's worth).

This is about learning, having fun, and getting together with everyone for the weekend.

No excuses not to try...

Donny ---

It's more than tires for me -- sadly -- There are requirements that neither of my cars can meet -- you know -- silly things like a registration (have none - can't get one if I tried) -- Insurance -- Lights -- Wipers -- "streetable". This is
the Ultimate STREET CAR Assoc... not the Indy Lights. LOL

My two are just pure track/race cars -- In order to buy the Lotus 2 Eleven, you have to sign papers acknowledging that it can not be driven on the street or licensed - it doesn't meet federal requirements. The Mustang doesn't even have VIN numbers -- hasn't been licensable since Jack built it - I have no title - no bill of sale - no VIN - No windows - no headlights - no turn signals - no plate - and couldn't drive it on the tour part if I wanted to. It'd run out of 110 octane... overheat (small radiator and no shroud)... and the clutch would be toasted and I'd probably break the Jerico with some ham handed shift at low RPMS.

I'd have been IN every one of these events If I had a car to run. I'd actually thought about just going to every one of them just because my friends are there... but with building the new shop out - and trying to get the new house started - and blah blah blah this just isn't the summer to be gone on the road. As it was I spent the month of March going to the first two. I hauled cars to them for RideTech and Hobaugh - and all the gear from Laguna to Fort Worth... I helped Vinnie set up the Optima Prime truck at TMS... I drove 5500 miles in the rig "just cause I could".

I think that's why I'm so disappointed in the turnouts --- people just have no idea what they're missing out on. And they're going to "Wait until next year" to do something.... and who is it they talked to that told them there was a guarantee there'd be a next year?

The time is NOW, and then there'd be a "next year" 'cause it would be, and it should be, a smashing success.

I'd even thought about skipping the Shelby Mini Nats to attend Portland... it is in my backyard. So guilty as charged. However, I've dedicated this season to get my two cars ready for the years ahead... and have gone to considerable effort in that regard.. and there isn't many times that work for all involved so the decision was made to track my two cars where I can run them.

I don't think many on here or "the other place" have the same excuse... and they're the ones this series is meant for - not me. That doesn't keep me from wanting to see this as a success!
