Default New Project(67 Firebird)

67 Firebird org, 326 4 speed car, Currently has a 455 Turbo 350 trans. No it's not a HO motor.
I traded a buddy my 78 transam race car minus motor for this car. This car comes complete with a extra rearend w/posi 3.55. The only thing is i need to swap out the motor in the car with a rebuilt 400 he has, and put the 455 in the racecar for him.
This Car will be a daily driver!! I'm done with race cars(just for know, don't tell my wife)
The plan
After motors are swapped and car is running again. It will get a power brake booster, then Vintage air cond kit.
Then drive it, Alot.
Start collecting parts for the build up, Save and spend, save and spend so on, and s on.
complete 90-93 latemodel FI 350, overdrive auto. then rebuild to 383 w/very mild hyd-roller.
DSE front control arms, 12inch brakes, I'm only going to run 16inch wheels, to keep tire cost down. I plan to put about 12000 or more mile a year on this car.
DSE sway bar and springs in the front.
Custom/Home built Truck arm in the rear. However I have been eyeballing the DSE QUADRA LINK KIT, 1500.00 isn't a bad price. Again 12 inch rear disk Brakes.
For the body well you can see in the picture that it has a vinyl top, enough said right. it's not really really bad, just bad. This will take up most of my time for the next year. I have taken some body shop classes, so I know just enough to get myself in a lot of trouble. Plan right know is to paint it dark green with black Vinyl top. sorry i just like that look. Wheels I'm not sure. Maybe steel pontiac ralleys in 16inch, I think someone makes them. or maybe a something like a 92 iroc wheel.
For the inside I'm going to build a custom Dash and shifter consol. Late model reclineing sits in cloth. Nice sound system nothing over the top.
I also want to figure out how to put a 25 gallon fuel tank in it and still have a spare tire. My dad lives about 10 hrs away in Nevada and i plan to drive there a few times a year.
I dream of having twin turbos, Please don't tell my wife

Jerry

Cool, thanks for the update, Jerry. Good luck and keep us posted. 1st Gen Firebirds just don't seem to get the 'treatment' like the Camaros do.

Sounds like a great journey you have coming. Welcome. I like the Firebirds. And keep my eyes peeled for one in my area.

Default A fellow Ponchophile....

Nice to see somebody else doing a Firebird.

I was going to do a 69 Camaro, but it seems like too many 69's have been done already. Just look at the list here on Lateral G and you see what I mean. However, they are cool as hell and I almost bought one anyway.

But I was looking for something a little more unique and it seems like the 69 Firebird hit the spot because it was only around for one year and you hardly see any. And you never see 69 convertible T/A's cuz they only built 8 of them.

During the Woodward Dream Cruise, I only saw 2 other 69 'birds. A nice turqouise convertible and a black hardtop.

Cheers,

Ray

Default welcome

My 68 is a work in progress. It's nice to see more Firebirds showing up. Mine is in primer right now and I am looking for a shop to take over and finish up so I can have it for next summer.
