I just stumbled across this...

Steve is right, my car is pretty low budget.The front spoiler was made from I sign I removed at work and I hammered out the window straps on the cement steps of my old apartment..The airbox is a six dollar cake pan.The motor and trans and most of the suspension were bought used from a fellow member here who gave me a great deal, and Steevo helped out with some used parts he had. My good friend john helped with all the heavy lifting, he is a gm mechanic. Anything thats not green including the interior and engine bay was painted with only the finest spray cans.I painted the steel wheels using the kitchen oven to dry them.The green paint and bodywork were done about twenty years and two owners ago.


Yup just another big budget, spare no expense build.


And a little foam tape between the rear strap and the windows protects the glass.

It looks good, your car has an awesome presence and I think it looks like something that either Dr.Yunick, Dr. Guldstrand or Dr. Donahue could have smacked on the rear bumper when it was born just like a regular Dr. does when delivering another precious soul into our world.

Keep building her the way YOU want her! There are far, far more ludicrous themes pursued and embraced by the masses all the time.

The NASCAR '75 Laguna PHR project car had the rear window straps (as well as other racing ques). Here's a link to the story where they made them.

the reason for the straps on the outside of the back window is so if the window blows out, the rear window will never buckle inwards, but with the hi pressure in the cabin, in can blow out, so they are used as a safety, much as the front braces hold it from buckling in

The strap's I built for my last project were simple to make. Picked some .125x.750 alum strap from the local hardware store. Cut and bent to shape. Used revit,nuts from mcmaster carr bolt it the body and some small rubber bumper's to keep the strip's from banging on the glass. My front tab's never touched the glass just for look's .

We call them window straps. As mentioned, they are intended to keep the rear window from blowing out. On a typical SCCA racer there would also be "clips" on the windshield for the same reason. A 360 degree spin at speed will blow out a windshield pretty easily.

To be authentic they need to attach to the body work. It looks like the one's on Dirk's car attach to the window trim. The ones I have fabricated have been made from 1" wide 0.125" aluminum.

Dirk's car caught my attention - very nice. My '69 Vintage Race project will be Fathom Green also.

On racecars with plastic windows they need the bars behind the windows so they don’t buckle and brake. But to put them on top of a glass window I don’t under stand its going make noise when you drive down the road and the car flexes, it will scratch the glass and also hold dirt between it and the glass. I have also used the little tabs we use those on cars that go really fast so the windows have some sort of mechanical fastener more so than just glue its not for looks cause they look awful its for function.

I Don’t mean critical or a jerk I am just getting tired of little trinket things on these cars that are some times very expensive and don’t make you car go any faster but just look cool. I guess that’s why I don’t come here much any more.
