Default Rear End??

Can someone school me on rear end differentials? I need to know what gears or gear ratio to use. I have a 68 Camaro, and I want to have a 9" ford fab for it. I went to a few shops and they all told me that I have a choice of gears to use but I don't know anything about gears or how to determine how many I need. Can someone help me?........If it helps I will not be putting this car on the track and I plan on running a 500 hp engine with a 700r4 tranny.. Thanks!

Well, there are lots of factors to consider, but to start with, what tire size are you running and what would you like to have to RPM at Interstate speeds? You can also take into consideration what you think you might run for mph in the quarter and what your redline is on the motor.

Well first off, If it is 500HP, I would not even consider a 9" unless you really feel the need to donate some horsepower to the inefficiency of a 9" design. The days of having to put a 9" in any car making power are long gone. A 33 spline Tru Trac 12 bolt is much more efficient, and plenty strong (stronger then a 31 spline 9", and you do not want a 35 spline Detroit locker) and keeps your car all GM.

Give me a call, we sell a few Moser rears a week,. just took a order 10 minutes ago for a powder coated, 33 spline, Tru track going in a member of this forums car.

We have done 100s now Pro Touring cars, and can speck it out in no time

Hey Frank, have you done any rearends that have the 3rd members setup with 12 bolt ring and pinions? That was an option when I ordered my Currie, but decided to keep it all 9".
