Default Follow up to my Mustang sale.. sorta funny

Just a funny side note into human nature..

As you know I sold the Mustang.. it was too nice for what I need and I felt I could sell it to someone and buy a less expensive car since I would be swapping out every part and painting the car.

The 67 I had was a nice driver that someone could enjoy while working on it..

So I put it on craigslist for $6500 to see the response. NEXT DAY I get a call from a lady who wants to look at it.. I explain the rust and the rusty floor and that it looks nice from 10ft but needs restoring and a lot of TLC.. but that it did run great..

She proceeded to give the sad story of how her father had promised her a Mustang like the one they had while growing up.. but he had died before she ever got one and now she wanted to get one in his memory (could I make a story like this up?).. She was 60 miles away but wanted to come see it that day.. I again explained the condition of the car to make sure she was clear.

She asked if it was my best price and I said I could go down to $6200.. Hey, it was a fair price and I was making a good profit.. not looking to screw anyone.

Well she shows up and acts all dissapointed.. she is going on about this dent and that scuff.. and the whole "i drove all this way for this".. oh she brought her brother with her and he (with the baseball hat on at a lovely 45 degree angle) is supposed to be the "car guy".. everytime they would point out some defect I would say "40 year old car.." and then I told them that they should go shop around and come back if they decide they liked the car.

He (away from her) tells me about how she is obsessed with getting a stang and it is her dream.. yada yada.. offers me $5400 cause "that's all they have".. I politely say.. sorry but I can't go below $6200.. I even feel a little bad since she seems to want it so bad.. but hey, that was a fair price. She then tells me how when she gets the car she is going to go by her fathers grave and show it to him and say.. and I am quoting here "See dad, I finally got it".. ok, you can go grab a tissue now..

So they say they will go to lunch and think about it.. later they call and say they will take it.. I say $6200 and she says how about a round number like $6000 (i thought they only had $5400).. anyways I remind her that $6200 is a round number and divisable by 2..

So she say's ok and they will be by later with the cash.. So they show up (late) and start counting over the bills.. hey wait.. we count it several times and there is only $6000 there.. they don't know what happened to the other $200.. maybe the bank messed up.. maybe they dropped it.. anyways, $6k is all they have.. But I am a **** and tell them to go hit an ATM for more cash.. they say it is late and they have to head back and say "fine, come back tomorrow with the $$ and we will do the deal then.. I promise not to sell it to anyone else"..

So they leave and come back in record time (amazine how fast they found that ATM.. lol)

They pay up the $$ and I give them the title and then she complains that the drivers seat won't go forward.. I say "40 year old car.." and that is that.. I think she wanted a rebate for the seat.. lol

Wife drives me home and I put the cash in the shoebox reserved for car play money.. I'm a happy camper and I sorta feel good that this lady finally got the car her Father couldn't get for here..

And the finally.. the reason you read all this nonsense.. the payoff you ask? well, here it is..

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/car/94726452.html

I guess they drove over dads grave this morning and decided to sell.. actually they must of visited the grave in the dark since they posted the ad at 1am today.. lol..

The funny part is that they thought they were buying it off me for what I paid.. (I just said I need to get my money back out of it.. never said how much I had into it.. assumptions).. and the whole story was an act to widdle me down on price. The feigned dissapointment when she saw the car.. the dead father.. the missing $200.. Notice they don't mention the rust of the very bad passengers floor..

Moral of this story.. Hell if I know but I thought it was funny enough to post..

<-- happy with what I made but sad that the car was not bought by an enthusiast.. although I am sure it will get to one eventually..

Why all the lies, I could have cared less if they would have just told me they wanted to try and resell it.. the price is the price.. oh well.. lol

Wow, I don't know if that's funny or sad.

Maybe you should call them and and give them this sob story about how your Dad promised you a Mustang, etc, etc... Think they'd recognize your voice? lol

Actually I want someone to call and ask if the car has any rust and see what they say...

My friend said he should go by.. look at the car.. pick it apart and offer $6300.. lol..

Tell them it is for his dying brother or something.. They really did lay it on thick..

This is one of the reasons my name is Mr. Angry . It really sickens me that are so few people left with any sense of moral character. Like you said, what would it have mattered if they had told you they were going to resell it? You had already set your price so they were not getting over on you in any way.

People today have no decency anymore and constantly try to take advantage of others. I applaud you for not getting steamed about the situation because it would drive me nuts being blatantly lied to like that. Good for you though for holding out for your price and not succumbing to their BS graveyard story.

Well I am not mad about them trying to make a buck.. but I am a bit pissed at getting played.. even if it did only make me come down $100 or so..

I still did well on the deal

But..

on the other hand it has been confirmed.. I am a bitter a-hole..

Actually she just sent me an email saying that she has several suckers on the line for the car already and she has no intention of telling them about any rust or other issues..

She was pretty much gloating about it.. called me a nut because I believed she wanted the car for herself

I thanked her for the $2200 and now it is time to move on..

Just a story to keep in mind the next time you deal with people.. it's a shame really..
