Driveshaft safety loop question?

I want to get a driveshaft safety loop, but have a stupid question. Which end are they supposed to go at, the trans, the rear end or both??

I was looking at getting one of these that would bolt right to the trans cross member. I've seen this one on another 68 Nova and it fits quite nicely. http://www.spohn.net/?keywords=drive...search&x=0&y=0

The other option would be to get a universal kit from Summit or Jegs.

if the back hits it will bouce wildly and possibly come thru the floor. if the front hits and digs into the asphault, it can launch the car. i would place it somewhere that when either end hangs it hits the loop before the ground.

I believe for NHRA specs it has to be within 6" of the front u-joint, so that is where I put mine.

Rear one might be nice to protect your floors/trunk but aren't required as far as I can tell.

Thanks guys. I think I might get the one from Spohn and for the extra $25, I'll get the Summit one and make it fit the rear so I have them both covered.

That "broken driveshaft will launch the car" is hard to believe. I'm pretty sure they tried on Mythbusters and that myth was busted

I thought I remember reading that the NHRA rules changed to where you need a front and rear loop. That could have been for non OEM floorpans though. Front would be the important one I'd think just like was previously stated. All depends on what you are doing with it.

i dont think it is really that likely, but i still wouldnt want it bouncing up right next to me.

the one i built sits right in front of the mufflers, probably 2/3 of the way back. it supports both ends.

Its probably more of a tearing up the floor and then bouncing around the interior passenger compartment sort of thing. Also probably scoring up the pavement I'm sure.

Pretty cheap insurance really....I have both front and rear loops now.
